Age old Oil Cooler Kit question
 

Gday all,

First time poster so not 100% sure where this thread should be.

However, i'm looking to purchase an oil cooler kit for my 2013 BRZ, and am planning on going FI in the near future. I have been searching all over these forums and am yet to find a definitive answer for my question which is:

What is the main difference between all these oil cooling kits (HKS, Mishimoto/Greddy/Setrab), and should i purchase one with a bigger radiator if i am planning on going FI.

I live in Australia where the air temps vary from 45C to -2C during the year.

Any constructive information would be great.

Quality, durability, construction, and mounting location are all differences off the top of my head. If you plan on FI, try to decide what kit you’re going to use so that you make sure to choose a compatible oil cooler in terms of fitment. CSG and other reputable vendors (not to mention experienced forum members) can give you specific advice.

Do you plan to track the car? And what FI kit were you going with? If you arent tracking it, I'd suggest going with the Forester XT set up or the Jackson Racing dual oil cooler radiator.

If you know it's an age old question, you've done enough research and should be able to answer this on your own :)

Sometimes you do a ton of research and miss something. It happens. It's nice to be reassured by those who live, eat, and breathe it. ;)

There is nothing really proprietary about an oil cooler. Most companies just piece it together add a mounting method slap on their brand and charge you the premium.

JR dual radiator is the only really unique one but also the most expensive. It’s simple and doesn’t add more stacks though. Forestor xt heat exchanger also unique and cheap but at least effective.

DIY and mount behind fog light bezel, open bezel for airflow. Surprisingly easy and much cheaper to DIY and be able to mount anywhere of your choosing really.

Before you go with an oil cooler decide on what FI you are going with. Then buy an oil cooler that will be compatible with it.

On top of fitment, you should consider how much cooling you actually need. Each of those kits have different cores and your cooling will reflect that.
