2017 Toyota 86 Hill Assist
Hello,
I recently just bought a 2017 Toyota 86 and I turned on the HIll assist feature and the light is illuminated. However, whenever I park on a hill and try it, the car rolls back still? the hill isn't that steep its my drive way. But on another car the same drive way hill assist works. Anyone know why its not working or activating? |

I don't have that feature on my car, so I can't be much help except to check the fuse. I hope you get it figured out. |

Thanks man! Do you happen to know which fuse it is? |
If the light is on it can't be the fuse.
The wording in the owner's manual implies that the hill start assist function doesn't press the brake for you, it holds the brake for you, acting more like a line lock than an automatic brake, Quote:

Yes on the hill my parking brake was not on. I put the car in first hold on the clutch and i would press the brake and let go a few times to see if it would roll back, when it did roll back i would just drive it up the driveway. It just seemed that it wasnt working like it didnt hold the brake. |
Does it work on actual hills or roads steeper than your driveway?
I thought the hill assist didn't work on my BRZ initially until I tried the following steps: 1. Enabling the hill assist on a flat level road. Not sure if it makes a difference or if it calibrates the system, but worth a shot. 2. When you're waiting on a hill, clutch is out, car is in neutral, and brake pedal depressed. When you want to take off, brake still depressed, clutch IN, shift to first, then release brake, clutch out, and take off. Not sure if it's just me, but the system didn't work when I released the brake before clutching in. |

I do pretty much exactly what NA said above. Car in neutral, ebrake up; I press the brake all the way, dis-engage e-brake (still in neutral); clutch in, shifter into first (brake still applied), start bringing your clutch foot up to slip the clutch as usual, start applying some gas as usual. The thing I'll mention is that the Assist feature doesn't stay engaged very long. I'd say 2 seconds or so. So part of your issue could be you haven't learned the timing yet; this gave me some issues when I first started using it, because I wasn't "quick enough" at first and the Assist would dis-engage before I was slipping the clutch enough to start into 1st smoothly. |

i just roll my foot while on the brake, rev to 3-4k, and while letting off the brake, dump the clutch and pin the throttle until it bounces at fuel cut.
what's the point of having a fun rwd car if i'm not letting everyone else know?!? |

The feature is for my girlfriend, trying to learn how to drive stick shift. |
