Falken vs. Toyo vs. GT Radial
Im torn between 3 tire choices. Well 4, but the Conti ECS are too much $ now. I got a deal for about 110 a few years ago on the earlier ECS DW when they were on the way out.
My choices now are: Falken FK510 -------$117 Toyo Proxes Sport --$121 GT Radial SX2 -------$97 Using the early Extreme Contact DW as a reference, which would be best for daily duty, great in the rain, and a carver on sideroads? Ill be mounting them in a 245/40 size. |
I think you have listed them in order of comfort to performance. It depends on your priorities. You'll probably be happy with any of them. If you want the most performance per dollar, I think the SX2 is the best bet. But I'm guessing they're also the least comfortable.

I went from the prior generation Extreme Contact DW to the Falken FK510's. They seem to be similar to the DW's. They have slighty stiffer sidewalls than DW's but are still on softer side. They seem to be comparable in the rain so far. I'm interested to see what happens to them as they wear, some of the siping on the FK510's do not go the depth of the tread block. The DW's were great in the rain at all tread depths IIRC. The Fk510's took time to break in, they were very slick for the first few hundred miles.

I went with the 510's. I will also share my same comparison. Going from the DW to the 510. Although my experience in the rain with DW's was very good, towards the end of their life they got snappy when it was wet. They would just let go and slide until they got back into that initial slip angle. Then they would snap back into place.

The GT Radials were my favorite "cheap" tire. The Conti's were my least favorite. They had the softest sidewalls I've ever seen. The GT Radials sidewalls are much stiffer. The only downside is their wear. They don't last very long. Especially the rears. But they are cheap. I just haven't been able to find any in years (235/45/17's). I buy all my tires from Discount Tires Direct. Free shipping and low prices.

"Especially the rears", luckily as twins have square tire setup, one can get some extra out of tire set, by rotating front vs rear wheels/tires.
