Second gear is the best for me as wheel speed isn't too high which makes it more predictable. Third gear is doable but at higher revs it gets switchy real quick with quick changes to wheel speed.

Drifting in snow is arguably a very good way to learn some basic sideways car control. Now it's not really like dry pavement with what you gotta do to the car to get it to slide, but once your in a slide it feels relatively the same.... That is, until it catches some grip. Keep them RPMs up!

Oh my God. I think I just figured out where I went wrong.

Maybe they will still drop for you - :iono:

Somebody that knows how to spell the word right!

No the panties would not have dropped. The jock straps may but not the panties.

My dad gave me his 61 beetle when I was 9 years old. Just cut me loose on miles of farm roads.

and then came ...

Fucking around is just a part of getting to know the machine.

Not a surprise that the majority of owners for a Scion/Subaru branded vehicle are over 40 years old. The car is light, RWD, and fun to drive. That's all that matters.

I'm pretty young, probably younger than you are so I definitely see where you're coming from. I only suggest finding a skidpad to practice donuts and other drifting shenanigans because parking lots, well, are for parking, and I know you know better than to do donuts on public roadways.

Thanks Wally86

Wow, one of the best threads ever. Enjoying everyone's words and videos as well.

I'll call this fun by proxy as I'm 73yo. Don't seem to have the juevos I used to have.

I did slide the car somewhat on dirt roads out in the boonies around here.
(Tore open that aluminum rock guard under engine once, damaged oil pan)

Did also slide a bit when OE tires were low on tread at 48,000 miles.

Wish I'd bought a 2014 before they made the car less tail happy.

Miss the old days of hooning in the snow when I lived in the North East.

As Ultramaroon, I did have my first car at age 9, so have a little driving experience.

Suvs, Crossovers can suck my balls as daily drivers.

There is no dough involved in skidding around in a moronic circle.

every first snowfall.. and a few others

Before I killed my 86 I took the boy and girl for their first driving lessons in a manual in it, drove around for a few hours, did some emergency braking and manoeuvres, then, followed by some mad donuts, #killgramma.

I'm of the opinion that the best driving lessons are done when the car is near on out of control.

The first time you swap ends in a car should be ASAP when learning to drive, same with emergency braking.

Luckly I have huge carparks at work.

And even when the 86 was stock, it still had more than enough power to pull mad donuts and figure of eights.

I'll be a little moronic if it keeps me grounded. #VolunteerAsTribute

Spot on. It's hard to know what a vehicle will do in a weird situation until you try something weird.

Went to have some fun in a wet empty parking lot. There was ONE street light within 100 yards. I turned off the TC and rolling at about 5 mph, I whipped the wheel and punched it. The car started spinning like a top. I had no control whatsoever. As I was spinning closer and closer to the light pole I slammed the brake pedal to the floor and stopped within 6 inches of the pole.
After I changed my underwear, I tried it again. This time with the TC on. I could not spin the car no matter what I did. My normal routine is the automatically turn off the TC as soon as I start the car. UNLESS the road is wet. Then I ALWAYS leave the TC on.

I was surprised at how drastically different the car is with TC on vs TC off. I'm glad your car made it unscathed! The lot I was in a barren as a 90 year old lady's womb.

I love all the videos on line of the ones who don't manage to stop in time.

Driver mod. Drifts and donuts should be controlled, if you're out of control you're not drifting, you're spinning out.
