Coating for fake carbon fiber dash pieces?

As has been mentioned in previous postings, the fake carbon fiber dash pieces scratch extremely easily. Now that there is a thread showing how easy it is to remove these pieces, I was thinking that spraying some sort of clear coat on these pieces might help keep them looking pristine for a longer period of time.
Anyone have any ideas as to what kind of coating would work best without dissolving the plastic pieces or getting all foggy looking, etc.?

I don't think Toyota intended for it to be a carbon fiber look. I think it just so happens to be the little T's in the color of carbon fiber. Because for it to be fake carbon fiber you would need to see fake weave.

You can probably use any Mother's interior protective coating. The main purpose is to prevent dryness and UV damage.

It's easy to find.

When I was using the 303 Protectant I went over it with that and it took to it really well.

That's certainly an option. I know of a local dipper in my area. I hadn't considered that. Thanks!

When you were speaking with them, did you get any price quotes?

20valvewynn83 08-07-2012 10:49 PM

I did speak to them about prices but it all depends on what you want done they said the minimum was around $65 I think and can range between $300-500 depending on what type of finish you want. I am going to send them pictures of the parts so I can get a better quote.

Well, if you take it off and look closely on the corner edges, the OEM trim is actually just "Carbon Fiber..ish, T" sticker wrapped. That explains why it scratches so easily... Not sure if you can peel it off and look nice though cause its cut very close to the edge and there's no room to practice..:iono:
I'll just opti- coat 2.0 and be done with it since I have a lot left after doing the car.

Anybody painted those the color of their car yet?

If you could take some before/after pictures and post them, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only person that would appreciate it...

I was thinking of using this cover to place some gauges (oil temp, AF and maybe coolant temp)

Sure, I'll take a few pics while in doing it. But honestly, it probably can't show very well. I didn't notice anything different with the exterior paint coated in opti-coat neither. :iono:
