Nitto Neo Gen vs Sumitomo HTR Z5 vs BFG G-Force Comp 2 A/S?

Hey guys,

Finally time to buy a set of tires for my stock-ish daily driver BRZ (just TRD springs, camber bolts). I drive spiritedly on occasion and do not track this car.

I've got an account with a local tire supplier and here are my options. Would appreciate feedback from you guys to narrow down my final choice.

All prices are for the stock size 215/45R17, set of 4, mounted and balanced:

Nitto Neo Gen
499.96

Sumitomo HTR Z5
396.00

BFG G-Force Comp 2 A/S
416.00

If you had to choose between these three sets, which would you go with?

Yes, I'm trying to keep it under $500.

Thanks!

Tire RAck tests for the Sumitomo and BFG, fwiw...
Any reason you're cross-shopping summer tires with all-seasons?

I get the feeling it's like when people say they have the Falken Azenis, or the Hankook Evo, or the Toyo Proxes... They don't realize the sub-categorization of the tire model, so they get the weak 400tw equivalent and think the tire sucks

I've had really good luck with sumitomo in general, but the last ones I've had were HTRZ III. If it's just a daily with little to no track time, they're probably a good bet, especially cost wise.

The guy at the shop is giving me deals/prices on what he has.

Also, I'm in the Los Angeles area. Summer tires would be ok.

i run the bfg comp 2 a/s specifically because i live in the snow belt, it extends the driving season to 'any time'.

i'm very happy with them overall. slightly more bite than stock but still loose enough to shimmy around if one is so inclined, similar predictability, and less noise at the limit.

Did you ask for a 225/45/17 instead? sometimes a more common size tire has a better price...plus that little extra sidewall will be nicer on bad roads and it'll fill out the wheel wells better too. Asking your tire guy won't hurt and might give you other options.

The Sumitomos are probably the least worst option in terms of price vs. performance. Still not a huge upgrade over stock, stretching the budget slightly would probably open up way better options.

I have the BFG for my winter wheels. They handle very well in dry and wet. The road noise over time is not great. They are harder which helps handling but hurts comfort. For the price it’s a good tire. No experience with the others. Compared to my PS4s for summer they are not that good, but that’s an unfair comparison.

I'm gonna 2nd that. BFG 225/45/17 was better than the stock primacy for sure. And yes there is a little road noise, but for what you are looking for nothing wrong with it. Looks good too. Haven't owned the other two ever so don't know on them.
