in case you are trying to buy parts from Japan, EMS to US is suspended

Due to the lack of flights between the US and Japan, Japan Post is not accepting any packages for EMS shipments to the US at this time.

Letters are still being accepted, but due to lack of shipping space on limited flights, there is upwards of a 4 month wait for delivery.

This happens for all the shipments from Japan, usually Fedex is the cheapest alternative but still quite expensive compared with Japan EMS!

So no overnight parts from Japan?
How will people decimate them all?

why? 04-24-2020 08:22 AM

there are not many countries accepting express anything from other countries at this time. It is simply not feasible and covid 19 is a worry as there is a chance it can last 3 days on cardboard.

Is Fedex still going through? I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Nengun last week and selected Fedex as the shipping method. They have not contacted me about any issues.

The capacity is the main issue, relative to volume.

There aren't delays for EMS coming from Taiwan to US, for example, mostly because the volume of EMS from TW to US isn't very large. Even with reduced flight schedules it's still only a 2-4 day delay.

Japan is different because the travel ban they put in place last month effectively makes all foreign flag carriers useless for flying to Japan, so only ANA/JAL still operates a schedule worth looking at.

FedEx flies their own planes, that's not the issue.

EMS uses commercial carriers to transport, so the lack of capacity is impacting their ability to send packages in a timely manner. Some people I know with packages are now in the limbo phase, they might be waiting months for it to depart Japan and the seller in Japan can't do anything to help them.

Yeah I've been waiting to place an order for a wing from Japan and earlier in April the guy told me there are no exports happening. Bah.

Most people don't like private carriers because they will get slapped with duties + a customs fee, usually adds like $25 + 2% duty to the cost of the item.

This is usually sent to you about 2-3 weeks after you receive the package, so it's annoying.

Wow, I didn't know that. I might have chosen another option if I had. Do those fees apply to all packages shipped via a private carrier?

They (Artisan Spirits) refuse to ship unless it's via their Canadian distributor. He says there are currently no shipments coming out of Japan. For some reason they insist on overnight shipping.

ichitaka05 04-24-2020 03:00 PM

Oof... guess no parts from Japan for a while

Typically yes.

Some people get lucky and don't get sent the bill afterwards, but people often forget that EMS is subject to the same rules of importation... just that the USPS doesn't do anything for this.

It's why most people send via EMS, to avoid duties.
