Can't jump start car. Welded metal to strut bolt?
Hi,
I just tried jumping my '17 with a dead, original battery. When I attached the last point (negative on dead car's strut nut), there were sparks and the cable got hot so I disconnected everything. It looks like theres some metal welded to the strut bolt... does anyone know what's going on? I've never had trouble jump starting a car before. |
I think some pictures would be nice. I’m just more curious why this goes in the tsb, warranty, and recall section?

I attached a picture of the strut bolt. Also want to add that I'm using a 6 gauge cable. |

Back in the day (not that anybody gives a shit) not ALL cars were negative ground - which led to several blown up batteries - :eyebulge: |

Oh, and the metal that was welded onto the strut bolt was caused by the jumper cable. There's enough extra material on there now that the nut definitely will not come off without some filing. |
I know you said you did it right but are you 100% sure you had the cables hooked up right? That looks a lot like the results of positive cable straight to ground.

Hope I didn't break anything |

Tried again with a different car (where I knew for sure + was positive :)) and there was no unintentional welding...
Now I feel dumb.. but how did I get it wrong twice?? |

I did it once and blew the charging battery up all you got was a little arc weld so you have that going for you. https://thumbs.gfycat.com/RingedHeav...clam-small.gif |
