Pressure plate bolts torque spec?
 

I’ve been trying to install my south bend stage 2 daily clutch. Read online that the pressure plate bolts should be torque to 26 ft pounds with an star pattern just like the flywheel.

Tried on two separate occasions. Starting with 5ft to 15ft to 26ft. The bolts break, leaving the threaded part of the bolt stuck on the flywheel.


Any suggestions? I’ll be trying a different torque wrench next.

26 pounds is not much, you shouldn't be able to break a bolt at that torque. Did it feel like you were applying significant force?

Not at all. I’m not going at an angle either I keep one hand on the head of the wrench and the other applying the force.

There is definitely something wrong now since this is the second time this has happened.

I’m thinking maybe is the torque wrench

I'd start with new bolts. If your torque wrench is broken and you apply 35lbs, your bolts still shouldn't shear off. Replace ALL the bolts you got in the kit. Try to test the torque wrench on some other "less likely to break"bolt just to see if it is functioning at least kinda OK

Since this has happened to me once before I made sure my torque wrench was clicking beforehand.

I found a dealership who has 4 in stock near by.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t doing anything abnormal, because I’ve yet seen anyone post about this. Surely I’m doing something incorrect, right..?

Well.. either you're applying MUCH more force than you think. Or your bolts are shit
