Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner Question

Hey everyone.

Is there a list somewhere of compatible OBD2 Bluetooth scanners for all of the BRZ / FR-S / 86 model years OTHER THAN the one that Ecutek has available, AND is also both Android and IOS compatible?

A few months ago, I purchased an ELM327 Bluetooth scanner that powers up and works in other vehicles I have, but it won’t even power up in my USD ‘15 FR-S. The OBD fuse is not blown and there is 12V on two of the wires in the OBD2 port. When I contacted the manufacturer of the scanner, they said since this car is JOBD, their scanner is NOT compatible, and that 99% of Bluetooth scanners on the market are also not compatible.

My wired Ecutek cable works just fine, but I have and want to use a 7” Android tablet mounted to my visor for monitoring and logging data through Bluetooth. If I have to, I can always purchase an IOS tablet for running the software if the software isn’t available in the Amazon App store. I don’t have an account with, nor do I wish to use the Google Play store.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I got an OBDLINK MX+
Seems to work ok with my android phone and tablet.
Neighbor borrowed it for his Audi A6 and worked with iPhone.

A bit spendy, but works for now. It's not a $7.95 special.

Looks like the OBDLink MX+ is the best choice for me. I see that it specifically mentions that it’s JOBD compliant and works with both Android and iOS. It’s also more than 2X cheaper than Ecutek Connect. Unfortunately, it’s not currently available on Amazon, and out of stock on Scantool.net so I’ll have to search for one.

Thank you for the information.

the $5 elm327 ones of ebay work fine for me, use the v1.5 older ones if you want oil temps. ive got two cheapies that work fine and a slightly dearer Foxwell one about $25 and an Ecutek super expensive one all work fine.

note only ecutek one will work with ecutek software

if you have apple device you will need wifi version apple doesnt seem to like many blutooth devices

The OBDLink MX+ is back in stock on Amazon. Mine will be here Wednesday. I also have an OBD2 port extension cable coming as well, since I read on here that the female pins of the factory ports for these cars were pretty flimsy and would only tolerate a certain amount of plug insertions before becoming problematic in some model years. Maybe Subaru made them a little better in later years, but if not, I’ll have one just to be safe.

I’ll probably get the EcuTek Connect eventually, but for now, this should do what I need it to do.

Thanks for the input.

So my new OBDLink MX+ scanning tool came in yesterday, one day early. It works perfectly on my work vehicle. But when I plugged it into my OBD port in my FR-S, just like the ELM327 scanning tool, it won’t even power up.

I guess I’ll have to wait until my OBD2 extension cable arrives in another two weeks to start troubleshooting the port and pins.

Anybody else have this issue on model year ‘15 and above?
