Direct injection

i have put a catch can on every car i own. i see no reason not to

Mr.ac 04-07-2020 08:44 PM

For a turbocharged car, yes why not?

For a NA, eh. What ever tickles your pickle. If it would be absolutely beneficial the factory would have put one in.

Get one if you enjoy spending money, or you are FI. No point NA.

daniloneil8 04-08-2020 12:35 AM

Why yes for FI, but not NA?
What is the difference ?

The crankcase doesnt really get pressurized when you’re NA, a little pressure that slips past the piston rings is it really. You don’t have a turbo/sc trying to multiply that effect.

my can pulls out about 1 oz of blowby every few months. its not much but i still rather not have that get sucked in over the throttlebody and intake valves

How much off that 1oz is actual oil vs condensation?

nikitopo 04-08-2020 09:30 AM

dumb

With FI, my catch can collects about a cup in a month and more than half of it is water. I would say it is okay not to have a catch can even with FI. It makes more sense if the car is regularly tracked.

That sucks, i have 2 cans and FI and i get way less than that. Although months is also irrelevant measurement, miles / WOT miles is more relevant. but you shouldn't really get much at all if NA not nearly enough to make any difference or cause any issue to justify a need for a can. Sounds like your rings might be getting old or you drive 5 times more than most, and 3 months is 15k+ miles for you with lots of hard WOT driving.

when its not cold out most of it is oil. also for the other person asking, i take it to redline multiple times a day. if you arent driving the car hard you are driving it wrong. i also run 5w30 when its warm out so maybe that gets blown by more than 0w20

Agreed, I take it to redline pulling 1-2-3-4 gears several times a day everyday. Pushing 13psi. Still not close to your oil in both my cans combined.
