VERY NICE!

I was checking the same 2 cxars out myself.

I've taken an interest in the MK3's, as the 4's are just too pricey.

Sorry I missed this until now!

I'm known as Poodles in other well known Supra places, so I would have helped more ;)

You made the right choice as the 1JZ is 100% impossible to legally smog as it's an engine we never got here. The 7M has a chance (though very slim) of passing if you can get it back to semi stock looking.

Not a fan of white or pre-89's (though it looks to be mostly converted to 89+), but it's kind of pointless to buy a car you can't smog :)

Only things of note on the new car:
- Watch your temps as the aftermarket electric radiator fans are garbage and don't flow anywhere near what the stock mechanical will.
- PCV system looks like it's just vented. True PCV system helps a hell of a lot on these motors.

Mk III Supra

Wow, it's been a long time since I've been here. Hope everyone's doing well.

I found a Mk III Supra Turbo for a great price. Now it's been a long time since I've driven Manual but I'm finding the Supra's first gear and reverse gear are exceptionally difficult to find. Does anyone who owns or has owned a Mk III have this issue or is it really just me being out of practice driving a manual?

other gears are fine it's just those two.

The R154 is a good transmission from what I hear. Maybe what you are experiencing is wear and tear from the previous owners and mileage on the car. How many miles?

151k miles

I haven't been able to get it looked at due to the quarantine. But that is my top priority when I get the chance.

Good eye, it is a 91

I'm owner number 5.

I believe Owner number 3 had that issue corrected, looking at the vehicle history. Owner number 1 babied it, Owner Number 2 didn't baby it but gave it it's regular services. Owner Number 3 I think was knowledgeable of Supras because it appears he knew of the gasket issue. Owner number 4 only had it for a short time but and I can only assume that's why a subwoofer got installed (now removed) and the wheel caps got plastidipped black.

That said the car needs some cosmetic TLC but other than nothing mechanical.

The box is probably just beat up.

R154s shift like garbage IMO. Mine won't go into 2nd and sometimes 3rd at high RPM. And in general they feel like a box of rocks.

My suggestion pull the shifter and replace the two shift bushings. They're like $20 at Toyota and fall apart. That will probably help. Switch the oil to redline MT90.

Update: It was just me not being used to the car, I was able to get it to it's service with no issue what so ever on the transmission front

However. I noticed a knocking sound as I was driving it, so I brought this up to the mechanics

So while Owner number 3 did try to fix the gasket issue he didn't do it well and as such the gasket was leaking, nothing bad that can't be fixed so that's good.

Lesson of the day, If you're going to to maintenance on your car, do it the proper way, and don't cut corners.
