Troubleshooting Exhaust Noise
Bought a Tomei UEL headers, over pipe, front pipe with invidia exhaust. After installing there is a metallic noise ticking during startup and through acceleration. Took it to the a shop and Toyota they had no response to this issue. Has anyone has this come up on their car?
Is it gaskets or turbulence in the headers |

What you are hearing is likely the mechanical noises from the engine echoing in your new catless exhaust. If you look at the differences in construction from your Tomei vs your stock pipes it will be obvious. Check the alignment of the exhaust and the torque on every single bolt and nut from the engine header to the catback and tighten to be sure.
Howdy?! Welcome to the forum. |
Yeah all new gaskets and pieces.
Just looking through many videos and none of the cars have that sounds. |

Like mentioned, re-tighten all the exhaust system connectors. Then, wait about two weeks, for the system to settle in (or for you to get used to it - ;)). humfrz |

Also worth mentioning that the direct injectors make a pretty noticeable ticking noise after the car has been idling for a bit after starting up, and that sound is very prominent if you pop the hood. |
Similar situation here. Tomei UEL and Q300. It's making an annoying tinny kind of noise under load that I never noticed in videos on YT. I haven't found any leaks. Hopefully it goes away or I find a leak.

Yeah every YT vid never complained or talked about a different noise like that

Going to piggyback off this thread because I'm having a similar issue. This one I was able to pick up in a video. Already confirmed I don't have an exhaust leak. Happens loudest when revving from 1k to 2k for a brief moment. It will happen on acceleration at all times and when not accelerating like engine braking it happens still but it's quieter. Not belts either, not anything hitting exhaust components. All I changed was the header and I'm using new gaskets to the head and from the header to overpipe.
Here is a video of it when revving. https://youtu.be/RILKC8LnmKk |
