Retaining steering wheel controls w/ aftermarket steering wheel on +17 BRZ/86
First time starting a thread, so forgive me if im missing anything or misplacing any info..
Anyways, i tried searching but to my surprise, have not found the topic discussed yet: Is there an option to relocate the factory steering wheel buttons on the +17 BRZ/86's to a panel or an adapter plate to the column to keep the functionality of the cluster menus & displays? The option to run an a lighter aftermarket steering wheel while still retaining access to the cluster menus is really appealing and would like to hear peoples thoughts on this. |

Are you just looking to go lighter? The airbag and metal piece gutted on the stock wheel comes out to exactly the same weight as an aftermarket wheel with adapter. Easier to sneak through inspection and you get to keep all the buttons. Trust me I know |
I was hoping an aftermarket wheel (such as the Renown wheels that ive been looking at) would offer some weight savings and have a better feel with gloves since the wheel would be alcantara.
since you claim that the weight savings would be close to negligible, i guess it would just be down to being picky with how the wheel feels/looks in the car. |
Light weight steering wheel LOL!
Yeah, there are other places to look at to save weight. |
check out:
https://www.geraldjustprojects.com/p...r-kit-4-screw/ You can keep your cluster navigation but would not retain your radio controls. Works like a charm. I have it installed as I upgraded my cluster to the 17+ on my 2013 BRZ. This thread may provide further information: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129867 |

As for that retrofit cluster kit, this is exactly what i was hoping to come across. something non intrusive and utilizes available space in factory locations. thank you so much for linking me to it! |
beltax90,
definitely an option for those who may not want to deal with repining wires. i guess i didnt realize how bulky that set up would look like while keeping all of the factory tucked behind the wheel. thank you! |

And I would like some DIY on it . |
