Another exhaust leak story
So to get down to it I have “hissing” sound coming from either my headers or over&front pipe. Originally I believed it came from my mid pipe to front pipe flange but I sealed that off and I still heard the sound
Next I go to the front pipe and over pipe which is sealed down with a V clamp however the V clamp look like it was not holding the two together as well as it should. I take out the front pipe and over pipe, seal the two with some sealant put it back together. Let it sit for a hour. Took a drive and it sounded like it was gone for a while (placebo effect maybe)but after a couple downshifts I can hear the air escaping. So next I replace the gaskets on my headers there was signs of a slight leak when I looked at the gaskets. threw on some Grimm speed gaskets bolted everything down the sound is still there!! I’ve read that sometimes with exhaust set ups like this that hissing sound is normal but it sounds terrible and I refuse to believe this is how it sounds especially with the quality of HKS I have catless Uel headers from ft86 speed factory and the JDL test front pipe and over pipe combo With my hks high power spec l exhaust. Should I order a new front pipe and over pipe or just get a new v clamp ? Thanks ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
If there are no visible cracks anywhere in your exhaust components, then it might very well be just the way the header is. Thin collector walls on headers can have a tin-ny/rattling hissing sound. Monitor your fuel trims and AFR to see if the leak is affecting it. If not, then it's most likely the way the exhaust system is.
Did the hiss develop out of nowhere or did it start once you changed the exhaust system? |
So I got a tune from Steve Wendy and he said my fuel trims and my AFR were fine
But my MAF scale sensor was off and i assumed it was my exhaust leak throwing off my maf. And honestly I think it might’ve been after I put on my catback from HKS. Another reason I feel I have a exhaust leak is because when I switch gears the exhaust makes a late backfire sound after acceleration rather than right after I engage in the gear of that makes sense ?
