Gear indicator not registering 5 th gear on 6mt

I need more brain horsepower for this one, all of a sudden coming back from a mtn run I noticed anytime I go into 5 th gear the gear indicator led doesn't register 5th. All other gears read out as advertised. 1-4 ok no 5 then 6 ok.
Intermittently while rolling in 5 th gear it will finally come on but will indicate 4 th. Does anybody know where the gear indicator gets its input from. I don’t know if its from a mag pickup on transmission or wheel speed ring
This Is a 2015. I did do the y58 2018 diff swap. But it’s be indicating fine

Just want know if any body else had had an issue like this. I turned everything off on dash . I.E. shift buzzer and indicator. Disconnected battery relearned my fuel curves throttle position then turned it back on per manual. Same thing.
Thx in advance. Steve

Hi, Steve. The gear indicator is calculated as a function involving the ratio of the wheel speed to the engine speed. Is the y58 shorter than stock?

churchx 03-07-2020 06:42 PM

Yes, as Ultramaroon wrote, it's calculated in ecu tune, and can be adjusted via most ecu tuning solutions for this platform (with exception of piggyback chips, which on the other hand rarely get used for these cars) there to work with different ratio FD. I hate this implementation though, as due how it is made, it feels very laggy.

I have a 2014 with a y58 diff swap and it did the exact same thing. Completely normal.

Thx partner valuable info for me I really appreciate it. As a side note we’re you able to get your accurately calibrated. I also have Ecutek. I thought the tune and all other perimeters were locked per your master Ecutek tuner.

Yesir partner, stock is 4.1. Y58 dif is 4.3. My lack of knowledge, I thought the Ecutek was tune and it’s perimeters we’re all locked via your Ecutek tuner In my case Delicious. So as I’m understanding this Without having you go through delicious I should be able to go into those perimeters and make the adjustments.
Now if I can just get one of our wizards that smarter than me to give a small tutorial my life will be complete. I’m old and my pentium 2 processor of a brain just doesn’t work as fast as it used to, too much cross firing.

I do appreciate the help as always from the group.

No problem, I know how annoying it is to have a glitch in your HUD. This accurately calibrated the HUD. I have open flash tablet so I am unfamiliar with Ecutek.

To modify the tune you'll need to download RomRaider and have 2 files handy called .xml and .bin I believe. Do you have access to those 2 files? With Ecutek you probably need the Canbus cable too..

If your current tune is by Delicious, most probably you'll need to go adjusting gear indicator calculation through them and then flash adjusted one, as i guess that your current tune is using ecutek and locked.

I run 4.56 gears and have learned to happily ignore the gear indicator!

I’m going to check it out now. I’ll see if it will let me in. If not I’ll send a message to Bill at delicious Thanks again bud

tomm.brz 03-08-2020 12:37 PM

you can t modify it yourself
it s locked by Delicious
you need to email them and tell to modify the tables for gear indication calculation for the new fd

It'll be locked. Email Delicious and explain the situation to have them update the proper tables and send you a revised tune to flash.

Brings the thought to mind as to why anyone driving a car with a MT would need an indicator to tell what gear the car is in? - :sigh:
