Must watch movies

I have a pretty good collection and plenty that I haven't even got time to watch yet but sometimes IMDB just doesn't give you all the
low budget good ones that people don't know about or maybe they even got bad reviews. I know Supertroopers was initially unknown and then it blew up later.
There must be plenty of them out there like that that just didn't have the marketing needed to get the attention it deserved.

What are some recent good ones you recommend? For me "JoJo Rabbit" was freaking good, a rollercoaster of emotions on that one. Then for my kind of weird/unknown one I say "The Art of Defense".

The last doesn't come up on imdb.

The Bed Sitting Room - check the full cast.
Sort of "A Boy and His Dog" from six year earlier.

Anything from Terry Gilliam.

Oops, "The art of self-defense".

Is Galaxy Quest obscure enough for this list?

HaXx 03-07-2020 02:43 AM

One of my favorites as of late is "the place beyond the pines" it's a dark emotional movie.

Can't say I have any recent ones that nobody has heard of but I do have a select few old ones. They all are all pretty obscure and can be hard to find but they do pop up on some of the classic movie channels once in a while. A couple are bigger name movies that just sort of got forgotten over the years.
Don't read the Wikis if you don't want spoilers!

Tora Tora Tora - No fictional character build up. No bullshit love story sandwiched in. No unneeded comic relief. Just a very well done non documentry telling of the attack on Pearl Harbour.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tora!_Tora!_Tora!

A Man Called Horse - A very different type of Western.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Man_Called_Horse_(film)

Castle Keep - What if WW2 was fought while everybody was on acid? Very bizarre and hard to follow at times but worth sitting through.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Keep

Death Race 2000 (1975) - Poor production, horrible stunts, laughable special effects, worst acting EVER. Overall a GREAT movie.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Race_2000

A couple of even older ones that may not have the same impact on younger people but are still great movies

Fail Safe - Oh how easily it could have happened. But didn't!

On the Beach - Pretty much a summary of Snooze's deleted thread.

Some we usually watch every time we go to the cabin (we have a few hundred old DVD and VHS):

Beverly Hills Ninja

Paulie

Down Periscope

Young Frankenstein

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Nacho Libre

Dr. Strangelove

Tora Tora Tora (as Tcoat mentioned, an absolute must see)

All the Sean Connery Bond movies.

Lately, I liked Knives Out, the new Midway, and Ford Vs.Ferrari. Didn't care for Joker, and couldn't get thru Once upon a time in Hollywood.

Sapphireho 03-07-2020 07:24 AM

Oh, forgot:

Blazing Saddles

The Frisco Kid.

i enjoyed Rubber as a stupid low budget minimal-character movie. it ends on the same tone that it begins.

Darkstar - existentially challenged planet bombs and aliens that go "parp".
