Fun at the Dallas FR-S First Drive Event

Finally! The day has come!!

http://i.imgur.com/2fo24l.jpg

I finally get to AutoX one of the twins!!

http://i.imgur.com/35xf6l.jpg

They had three on the track, a Whiteout, a Firestorm, and a Hot Lava...

http://i.imgur.com/Sbv8Vl.jpg

They also had a Black one that they used as a demonstration model...

So, the event started out with this dude telling us all about the car... He was selling it pretty well!

Enkei's!

http://i.imgur.com/lnrZYl.jpg

He was very adamant that everyone know about the taillight winglets...

http://i.imgur.com/JWGYCl.jpg

These cars feature TRD Exhausts, Enkei Rims on Yokohama Tires, and TRD Lowering Springs. Together, they made the car look and sound like a car that was born on the track...

Then we moved on to the good stuff, the driving!

http://i.imgur.com/vC9mUl.jpg

Here we see @Exhaust trying to figure out how an Auto works...:bonk:

http://i.imgur.com/yJAxhl.jpg

And behind him, my cousins who haven't ever driven anything more exciting than a V6 Altima! ;)

http://i.imgur.com/pgVjGl.jpg

And then third in line was my good buddy Zain, who is now a believer! A BRZ might be in his near future...

http://i.imgur.com/wCvjXl.jpg

The course was a decently sized course with plenty of quick S turns a small straightaway. I believe it took about a 1 minute 30 seconds to complete...

Le finish line.

Here's Mr. @azspd02 who can't wait to get his hands on his FRS!!

So now, I shall tell everyone what I thought of the car, with a few random pictures thrown in!

In my first run, the car was set to VSC Sport and in Manual Mode. The Trans was not on Sport Mode (because I forgot ) but I suppose that might have been a good thing.

The Acceleration was good and certainly more than adequate for a tight AutoX course like this one.

The Steering was excellent! It was tight, well weighted, and the turn in was quick enough to change direction between the sharp corners at this course. I was incredibly impressed with it!! VSC Sport let me get small bit of rotation out of a corner, but reeled it back in. They didn't let us turn Traction off, but damn, I wanted to...

The Brakes... Oh man, the brakes. Wait! I need to put in a random picture!

There we go.

The Brakes were magnificent. I don't know if it was because I am coming from driving big heavy Supras and underwhelming econoboxes, but DAMN THOSE BRAKES BIT HARD! I freaking loved those brakes!! Perhaps they had upgraded pads and/or fluid? There was no mention of it if they did. And even after a group of 15-20 people flogged them around in a row, there was no brake fade felt in my second run...

I quite like those TRD Tips...

Body roll was fairly non-existent and certainly added to the excellent feel on the course!

The Transmission shifted decently quick in Non-Sport Manual mode. I certainly wasn't fooled into thinking it was a Double-Clutch system though. The Paddles were decently sized and clicked very nicely.

On my second run though, I put the Trans in Sport, and it was certainly different. Upshifts were quick. Very quick. And were definitely pushing Double Clutch speeds! The downshifts were slightly more delayed, but fast nonetheless! I came away very impressed with the transmission! Bloody excellent for a slushbox, IMO!

Also, I like Whiteout even more after seeing it in person.

In conclusion, BIG PROPS to Scion for putting on sweet events like this. For those of you that hate the brand, these events should be enough reason for you guys to reconsider! This only made me love the Twins even more and I can't wait for the day that one lands in my driveway!!!

And for a Bonus, here's @Exhaust enjoying the 110* Texas Sun and the Raven FRS behind him!

And for even more bonus, CHECK OUT ALL THE SWAG SCION GAVE US!!!

Posters, Lanyards, Hats, you name it! They just give all this stuff away!

Also, I attended the event as a representative of our dear Home, FT86Club.com. And so, I made this awesome nametag so everyone would bow down to me at the event...

Your course looked way more fun than the one they did in Nashville. Ours was in the football stadium parking lot which has lots of grass islands for tail-gating. (Fewer injuries when drunks fall in grass versus concrete? :iono: )

Congrats on your first autocross! Now don't go all crazy about it. It's okay to drive a car with floormats and a spare tire.
