Might be selling my frs
Hello, so I’ve had my frs for nearly 3 years now and have loved it the whole time. Earlier this week I got an estimate to fix up my paint and body work (bought the car used with some issues) and the quote was a little over $4,000. I’m debating selling it and looking for possibly an evo X. Has anyone had experience with swapping over or maybe even any regrets? Trying to get some input to help decide on what I plan on doing.

No personal experience, but there's a few older threads here:

Do it.
The longer you sit on it the less you'll get. These cars are nothing special to worry about trying to keep them forever. They are a great ride, but they can easily be out classed, out preformed, out whatever with any car. |
I daily drive *winter* and Evo X (Final Edition) and have 2 BRZ's. I personally wouldn't recommend the Evo for a daily replacement in 2020. The Evo X has some horrible issues that make it a poor daily driver. First off as a daily commuter the GSR/Final Edition have a poor transmission by today's standards. I ended up swapping a quieter-than-stock exhaust on mine simply because the close range 5 speed is horrible on the highway. 65-70MPH hovers around 4500rpms in 5th gear with awful drone. Because of this and it's low compression, MPG tanks as a daily even before power before mods. Secondly the interior is the equivalent of a cheap late 90's rental car. Compared to other cars that are now out in the same market segment- it fails miserably. 'Tis a great (expensive) winter toy though. Also note for whatever reason, the Evo demands high insurance premiums well above it's weight.

you could also consider watching junk yards for a same-color vehicle for replacement panels that should match better. install them yourself, and i imagine most of it could be done for under $1k.

If you want AWD and turbocharged then I would consider a newer WRX; you really don’t need the STI’s upgrades, and it also has a lower compression ratio and an older motor. There are several hot hatches that are nice. Used 2 series and a3’s and other entry luxury cars might make a nice daily. |
There is also the option of getting a Ralliart. Not an Evo X so no street cred but it would be much better DD with still good performance.
