Or you could pull it out and take it apart and all that jazz.. I guess it depends which you have more of, time or money. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk |
How do you know the bearings are gone? Either way the engine has to come out.
If you have the tools and space to work on it you can do it yourself. Or at lest get the engine out yourself the. Have a shop do the actual engine work. That way you'll save a few bucks. Unless you are good at rebuilding engines and got all the tools go for it. Do it all yourself. Option 2: bend over and take it all (price wise) pay a shop to fix it. Since you don't want to buy an engine even though the price for a used one can be a lot lower than having a shop do all the work. |
I wouldn't try to repair if bearings are indeed gone. I'd buy another motor

Rebuild or replace. Pretty much the only options.

That's why I will and always recommend selling this car when ever you want more power or get tired of it. |

It's lighter, more powerful and out handles my BRZ. Same is said for any Miata, minus the power part. Lol |

I can play this game all day, but there will always be something you'll say that would seem to favor ____ car against _____ car. |

My engine trashed itself the other day. I'm going to have a reputable local tuning shop build my engine for me. The spirit of my car lives within the original engine it came with, I will not part with it. It can be honed, polished, rebuilt, and made STRONGER. Never more reliable though. before rebuilding or purchasing, you need to find out why you spun a bearing ( if that's what happened) in the first place.
If you ran the car low on oil, the same thing will happen to a new motor. if you accidentally put windshield washer fluid in the oil fill, it will happen again with a new engine. Determine what caused it so you can avoid it BEFORE setting yourself up for failure. I would suggest a 91-96 Miata. The only thing that goes wrong with those is that if you cut someone off, they'll throw a beer bottle through your rear vinyl window. You could probably run it without oil and with windshield washer fluid in the crank case and it would run fine. You can even manually advance the timing to get 5 extra WHP out of it. |
