2JZ Datsun 1200 pickup?

Does anyone know if this has been done or if it could be done? The Datsun Sunny truck is the only truck I like the look of and a 2JZ would be nasty. I know they did it with the 1200 coupe and I know they’ve K swapped and SR swapped them. Would the engine bay be big enough?

It's probably possible but you should ask on a datsun forum for more support. Would be a pretty expensive build too. A lot of the manual transmissions (non motor) go for around 5k+ alone.

I figured it’d be pricey because those trucks are already a unicorn and 2J’s are hard to come by as is. I figure with the truck and all parts it’s probably end up being 40k but it would be the best truck on the street imo. Plus they look so good lowered. They got that muscle car look with a bed.

Why do a 2jz? It’s a Datsun after all, and it came with a 1200cc engine, so it wouldn’t need much power. Drop a SR20 or RB in there. There are the RB20DET and the RB25DET on top of the famous RB26DETT, but an RB25DET RWD setup is plenty, if it will even fit. This guy says the SR20 barely fit:

Come on dude. The only engine to use would be a Gallo 12. I think the 24 would be too much.

I could always be super disrespectful and LS swap it.

LS Swap is always the answer, unless the answer is Miata, but even then, LS Swap is better.

As a one time owner of one of these trucks I would say your best bet would be to pick a whole chassis and drop the body on it. You would need to change literally everything under the truck to deal with any form of engine swap. The steering, suspension tranny and rear end could barely stand up to the stock 90HP. The frame and underbody would twist like a pretzel the first time you revved it out with an LS or 2JZ. If you could even manage to cut enough away to put a 2JZ in there in the first place.
Be a very expensive and tricky project to end up with a $20K car at the end of it.

Who cares? :iono:

If it's yours, do what you want with it.

I wasn’t thinking disrespectful, as much as, unnecessary and overkill. There is no need to go with a 2JZ, or for that matter, a LS when the vehicle only weighs 1800lbs. As @Tcoat said, you would almost need a whole new chassis to manage the power. A 300whp build would have a power to weight of a 600whp Mustang, so a SR20 or RB25 is more than capable, and it keeps the engine and chassis under the same manufacturer.

I get what you’re saying. But still it would just be something different. I mean what would you do besides poop your pants if a Datsun Sunny Truck puller up next to you sounding like a nasty straight piped V8 or a dirty swirly 2JZ? I’d definitely be pooping, peeing, and puking because that would be super sick.

If I saw a proper set up on the strip I would be impressed they managed to get it done.
If I saw a slammed, over tired, nosy as fuck, one on the street I would laugh my ass off because there is no way they could put that power to the ground and it is all just bullshit show for the flat brimmed, vaping, face tattooed crowd.
