2017 Subaru BRZ Series.Yellow [Performance Pack] - Tasteful Mods - Atlanta - SOLD

2017 Subaru BRZ Series.Yellow

SOLD

This is my second run with the 86 / BRZ platform. All the mod mistakes I made with my '13 FR-S, I tried to remedy with a more "OEM+" dailyable build that can still touge and do light track duty. I'm hoping someone out there can appreciate how I've modified my Series.Yellow!

It has not given me any problems since I got it back in Oct 2017 aside from a battery replacement under warranty in 2018 (dying cell), and my OCD self noticed the trunk striker rubber bumper being worn from a design defect, which is documented on this forum -- I have since replaced it and have additional spares in case.

The vehicle is well documented on VINwiki as well. Use the app / site to look up JF1ZCAC13H9601408.

Vehicle Details:
  • 59k Trouble-free miles (majority highway cruising)
  • Exterior wear & tear is above average for the mileage
  • Interior wear & tear is excellent
  • Mobil 1 oil changes + tire rotations every 7.5k miles
  • #228 of 500 Series.Yellow's in the US
  • Performance Package (Brembo brakes, Sachs dampers, wider black 17x7.5 wheels)
  • 6-speed manual transmission with revised 4.3 final drive for '17+

Car will be partially parted out at the asking price, unless the next owner wants the following mods:
  • Corsa Performance Exhaust w/ Black Polished Tips (my favorite sounding exhaust I've heard for the BRZ / 86 platform with no drone)
  • OEM Audio Plus Reference Sound System (Every speaker replaced with carbon-fiber speakers, 8" subwoofer, specifically tuned to this platform without compromising trunk usability)

Tasteful Modifications:
  • Racecomp Engineering "Yellow" Lowering Springs, SPC Lower Control Arms, SPC Camber Bolts (Professionally installed and aligned with a focus on performance + daily drivability, alignment numbers here)
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires
  • Sequential OEM Taillights
  • Color-matched LED exterior lighting (super bright license plate, reverse lights)
  • Tinted: Windows (20%), Taillight inlay, Reverse bar (both easily removable), Smoked side markers
  • Ceramic Coated
  • Pre-wired for dash cam and Escort radar detector
  • Fumoto Oil Valve (super easy, no-mess oil changes in 30 minutes)

You're car looks very nice and is tasteful IMHO.

I've just started to look for an 86 and I'm amazed at the high prices everyone is asking for their cars.

Edmunds (KBB and others are similar) offers the following values for this car:
Trade In: $15,489
Private Party: $17,212
Dealer: $18,622

Yes, you have some nice mods, but are they worth ~$4k? Each person has to answer that for themselves.

You tint is also not legal (at least for TX where I am) so that is another hassle factor. It does look very nice though.

When a new one is only ~$6k more, why buy a 3 or 4 year old car at these prices?

Looking at classifieds I'm also surprised at the high prices. Do they actually sell for ~$22k stock for a 3 to 4 year old 86? If so, I need to just stop looking at the used market and get a new one.

No, you just need to dig a bit deeper. You can find forced induction, modified twins on here starting from the low-mid teens, usually worked on by reputable tuners too. Even if "mostly stock" is what you were searching for, you can find plenty that pop up on this forum, FB marketplace, and online in general.

A lot of owners have unrealistic resale expectations of their "special edition" models (i.e. series yellow, blue, white, tS, etc.). Be patient, and you can find a great deal on pre-owned twins!

...

You are not wrong -- people will have biases especially when they sink money into modding a car... these folks (me included) will always be biased to it being worth more than a stock car. Dealerships / auctions don't care, obviously.

When I listed my Series.Yellow, KBB and NADA had it pegged at $21,586 and $20,575 respectively -- Maybe the algorithm has fallen out of favor for me in that respect. Historically, the special editions will be priced higher than premium/limited counterparts.

Not in a hurry to sell, but passively looking for the right kind of buyer that wants these modifications done. Of course the price is always open to negotiation as long as we're on the same page.

Buying and selling goes both ways -- be patient and the right transaction will materialize.

P.S. I've spent some time in Houston, TX and haven't been hassled about the tint yet. When I had 5% on my FR-S... that was a different story.
