Tinting tail lights
So I own a 17 brz. Love the tail lights but... I think my car would look so much better with tinted tail lights. So should I purchase a set of 13-16 tail lights and get them professionally painted and sell my 17s? Or just get my 17s done? I know the 17s are worth more. I don’t want them film tinted I’ve ran into issues on my daily drivers lights via film. I had them professionally filmed as well. All in all it wasn’t worth the money a year later I have bubbles now. I paid a pretty penny too.
Or go for an aftermarket set of taillights already tinted. No eBay junk and sell my 17s. So many choices. Not sure of the quality of after market lights tho. |
Lol, what aftermarket options are there if you take away anything sold on ebay?

If you take the time, you won't have any issues with film. I'm using $10 pre-cut film from eBay. I prefer my look over any other aftermarket options.

Just leave em alone. Why make them darker so that people have a harder time seeing the back of your car at night? Y jest last night, I drove my car up to the jack-in-the-box to get the little woman a deluxe burger (with fries). I was dark and pouring down rain. Some kid came towards me in some sort of civic with blue headlights that looked like two arc welders. Totally messed up what little night vision I had left. Then some jerk kid in another civic slammed on his brakes in front of me. Of course I couldn't see his tail/stop lights, because he had "darkened" them. Sure as hell I would have run into him but he lost control and ran off the road, because his wheels were so squatted out he couldn't keep it on the road - :eyebulge: OK, since you live in Ohio and I live in Washington, go ahead and spray paint your tail lights black - jest don't come out here on vacation and get in front of an 77 year old man in a Saturn - :confused0068: humfrz |
The law is very grey in that area. Legally, if someone rear ends you, they are at fault. But also legally, any tail lights that have been altered from the way they left the factory(only the manufacturer of the tail lights can certify they meet DOT specifications) are illegal to be on the road.
I don't know of any precedence in a case like that, but if the person rear ending has knowledge of it, it would likely make for a long and drawn out court case for arguing that the altered tail lights were the root cause of the accident in the first place, making the lead car at fault. |

Nooo. I wouldn’t spray paint my tail lights lol. Here is a picture of my old 6th gen Celica. I had the taillights professionally done. Zero issues seeing my taillights at night time. |
