Installed backup camera install, now the car wont start :(
Hey guys,
I installed a backup camera today on my 2013 FR-S 10 series, got it working until I somehow managed to break something with electrical and now my car won't start. It's not the battery (tried jump start) i've checked most of the fuses and they are ok. I haven't checked the relay and not sure how. I've recorded what's going on below. Any help is much appreciated Problem: https://youtu.be/kwYqBOeOy4U |

So, your car is an AT, are you sure the shifter is solidly in "park"? What else, if anything, did you do the car around the same time you installed the back up camera? I'd suggest you "review" what you did to install the camera, to see what might have gotten "unplugged". You might check to make sure the ECU is screwed down tight. Since the battery is turning the engine over good but it's not firing, it's most likely not getting fuel or spark (ya, I know daaaaaa). OK, some other folks will be along soon, to - take er on in - :D humfrz (mumble-mumble, back in the 50s it would have been it was either out of gas or someone pulled the coil wire off) |

That is assuming it is an AT car... |
Did you plug the connector back into the Amp when you were done?

Yes i see the park indicator next to gear and on dash, It could be the fuel or spark, its sitting in garage now, guy said he would take a look tomorrow, will post update |
entaroadum, Definitely messed with the reverse wire, but i do see that it registers park and drive when i change gear and yes its an AT

Revert back to stock and see if the car will start.

As others have said, check all connections and basic stuff first. Is it an alarm issue, is shifter in park, etc.? I find it highly unlikely that the majority of the backup camera wiring would impact the car from starting; even if you ground something out. If I recall from doing mine, you should have tapped into a power source in the trunk to power the camera (ground should go to other wire paired with the + you are getting power from). Your video jack will connect to the headunit of course; pretty straight forward.
Where I could see issues is when you tap into the reverse wire at the driver side kick panel. Your FRS doesn't have a trigger wire and I didn't watch the video but I assume you did this. Your trigger wire should go from the head unit to the reverse wire (located by the drivers side left foot area), and perhaps you shorted something out. If you used t-taps like I did to tie into the cars reverse wire, perhaps you could have completely severed your cars reverse wire all together. That's an easy fix if so. |
