Free, washer-based exhaust mod

Hi guys,

I recently found this video on YT and was wondering if anyone had tried this?
I'd like a little more sound from the exhaust, but I'm cheap and don't want to splurge 700 - 1000 USD on an axleback (which is the cost of a simple exhaust in mainland Europe).

(for those who don't want to look at the vid, he's basically using washers to space the midpipe and the axleback by about 1/5th - 1/4th of an inch)

It actually doesn't sound awful at all, at least in the video.

Is this free money, or do you just get what you pay for?

Just an exhaust shop to make you one. I honestly don't see the need to cheap out on certain things.

You get what you pay for. You're literally creating an exhaust leak.

BigTuna 12-30-2019 09:41 AM

You've heard cars with exhaust leaks, right? That's what it'll sound like.

radroach 12-30-2019 10:33 AM

ah yes, the hogzaust mod.

drive the car a few years and the stock exhaust will get a little louder

You can also lower your car on the cheap by drilling a few holes in your tire sidewalls...

They said never to go full retard. This guy did. Enough said.

you can buy a muffler delete from nameless for like 180 bucks. and itll make the car louder without causing damage to your current exhaust system

though I llike the idea of a custom shop cutting out the muffler and welding in a resonator of some sort.

vibrant makes a good un

Why not just remove the axleback portion completely? That's better than an exhaust leak at least.

I think this is one of those mods that are up there with stuff like zip tying your springs + using coins to lower the car.

The problem is, most cheap exhausts come from US companies. By the time you add transportation to the EU, payment fees and customs, their prices have pretty much doubled. A muffled single tip track pipe + right-side exhaust cover winds up being a 5-600 USD endeavor here..

What I'd prefer would be to have some shop weld a butterfly valve between the axleback's entry pipe and the left tip, so that I can bypass the muffler when I want to be an obnoxious prick, but have a quiet car when I don't.

Haven't found anyone that has done that so far though..

There's a lot of cars who exhaust end right after the rear axle, so I really doubt this particular aspect would be much of an issue. There seems to be more than a few reasons not to go through with it though, so...
