Gear Shift Indicator not showing, although it is selected 2017
The GSI (Gear Shift Indicator) is selected on the screen and is on, but the cluster does not show which gear the car is in, including reverse. It showed before, but all of a sudden, it is not longer showing. I tried turning it on and and then off and tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, and it still will not turn on.
Any help or ideas? It is a 2017 cluster. Thanks! |
First place I'd check is the clutch switch.
Is the cruise control working? |
Read your manual. It's in there.
Why it got turned off? Beats me. |
Is gear indicator by default on for MY2017? It certainly wasn't on early cars, thus battery disconnects were what reverted to default of not displayed, indicator that was manually enabled prior disconnect.

The only gear it will show regardless of clutch state is Reverse.
1-6, you need to have clutch in with engine running and car rolling. ECU probably uses RPM and Wheel Speed to calculate gear |
Yes, indeed it's so, and i dislike laginess how gear is displayed due that, relatively long after actual gear change. It shouldn't be too hard to add some not that complex sensors in gearbox to read gear right away w/o calculating, but i guess such thing was outside things to implement in car, essence of which is to be good enough for cheap, not best at any costs, including extra features/gadget area.

Calculations implemented in software are dirt cheap to replicate and install.
Switches and sensors add to the cost of the vehicle. |
