Not even close.

Are 20 and 0 the same number? Are 20 and 50 the same number?
I would leave your car in the care of a shop to have your oil changed and ask their advice on the oil you should be using :) |
Good dumb question.

A friend just suggested i read the manual but to be honest never occurred to me.. I went straight to Google. I dont want to pay mechanic to top up the oil and coolant.. I should be able to do that myself even though im not mechanicly inclined. I think I remember someone saying it's a specialty oil... proberly so we have to pay them to service it...

First I would like to hope that you haven't cursed your brz by putting that in, and no not at all. The first number is the viscosity which is different, usually want to keep these low if you are in location with low temperatures.
The second number is the how thin the oil is, and that is wayyyyy thicker to sustain engine oil temperatures that you will probably never reach. The higher the second number the thicker it is and the more it takes to break down under temperature. |

And 0w20 is extremely common oil amongst new vehicles. Visit any parts store and you'll see a variety of 0w20 synthetics. |
Correct oil and how to change the oil.
Just love all the help..... We all have to start somewhere.
Go To Walmart and buy this Mobil 1 120758 Advanced Full Synthetic Motor Oil for 0W-20 5, 4.73L Two important points are: 1. 0w-20 2. Full Synthetic As long as the oil you buy has those two items you are good. Amazon sell it here: https://www.amazon.com/Mobil-120758-...%2C159&sr=8-17 Before you attempt it watch this video. If you feel you can't cope go to a Toyota dealer, they will charge about 60 bucks to do an oil change. The truth is the cost of oil and a good filter is not much less than paying for an oil change. Don't listen to all these guys. That oil is fine. You just need to put in less to make up for the added viscosity. It's about 3x thicker than normal oil, so only put in about a third as much after you dump the old oil. So about 2 quarts should be plenty. If you fill it back up, you risk overloading the oil pump, which may cause cavitation in the pump, resulting in poor oil flow, and eventual failure of the hub assembly.
Disclaimer: Don't do this. |
