However, I'm visiting a family member who's worked at Toyota Corporate/headquarters for 35 years. Not sure if this information has been talked about, but he has informed me on the following regarding the second generation FR-S/BRZ

-He has seen early renders and said they look incredible
- The engine will be borrowed the current Subaru Ascent (2.4L, 4-cyclinder)
- however will be bumped up to 280hp (vs 260hp in the base Ascent)
-The BRZ Version will be the only one that will have an optional turbocharger. Unknown if Toyota will offer later

I'll try and get more info out of my family member. But thoughts? Has this info already been discovered or discussed?

If it comes out with anything remotely like this I’ll be upgrading. Thanks for sharing, interesting to see if it comes to light.

280hp (209kw) is slightly more than current WRX power.

You LOL now... Wait until Australia's #1 e-zine reprints this info and quotes ft86club.com as confirming it coming direct from Toyota top management.

If power were to be around 240-250hp and light weight, i'd make the switch. I would love for it to be a coupe hatch.

Guys.

Have you looked at where the turbo is mounted on the F engines? Unless they develop a whole new turbocharger setup to mount it where it used to be on the EJs or push the engine far back enough to mount it in front, there isn't going to be a turbo in this car, it's way too tall of a setup for the car's design criteria.

Oh Pahleeeeese! The car was designed with the modder in mind. There are a dozen different aftermarket turbo kits for the twins and they all fit the present car. I'm not saying there WILL be a turbo version from the factory, BUT... If they wanted to they could design it to fit where ever they needed it to fit.

Idunno. What about the intercooler, where would they mount that without blocking the rad? They definitely can't top mount it like in the WRX's, nor could they share the space in the front without cutting a giant hole near the top of the front bumper..

Maybe you could use the fake vents on the sides I guess?

Air to Liquid intercooler with baby rads behind the fake vents?

Just leave the damn thing NA and beef up the internals then let the aftermarket/ owner do whatever they please.

Aftermarket design constraints aren't the same as manufacturer design constraints.

Didn’t see this mentioned on this forum? From October photos of a new brz being tested, looks like they are going to use the current platform? good thing they are comparing it with the alpine a110

That is just a special edition or facelift of the current gen so of course it is on the same platform.

Most interesting in that is the power of the a110.
