car vibrating a lot
 

so i have a full exhaust setup, the other day i installed a front pipe and over pipe and ever since the car vibrates kinda hard, like i hear everything inside the cabin shaking and i can see my hood shaking and i can hear my exhaust vibrating when i’m slowing down, is it normal for having a full exhaust on the car to vibrate a lot?

Nope, it's not normal. Changing the exhaust should only make your car louder and if you're extremely lucky give you more performance.. it should not be trying to declutter your car by shaking bits off it!!

Something obviously wrong with your installation... Go back to start..

Like said, not normal. I suggest you take the new exhaust pieces off and reinstall the old pieces. If the vibration stops, you know what's to blame. When you put the new pieces back on, make sure nothing is touching (or even close to) the under pieces of the car.

OR, Bubba says just to rap on the new pieces with a hammer and/or pry them away from things with a crowbar till the vibration stops.

Take the car to somebody that knows what the fuck they are doing and have them look at it.

Check the cars fenders and see if the wheels are contacting them.

Loosen everything and start tightening front to back. Pipes may be rubbing against something. Check all your torque specs. Good luck!

so my overpipe is touching my subframe, would you recommend trying to dent it away from it?

I don't understand why your new bits are touching the "wrong" bits. I am assuming that the new bits are from recognised manufacturers. The new bits should fit without getting technical with a mallet or blow torches.

Are the new bits the right spec for your poor car?

One of the hangers is probably out of spec and pulling it away from where it should be. Find the offending hanger and bend it where it should be.

Well, if it were my car, I'd just take a crowbar and pry it away from the frame till it didn't touch anymore (if that leaves a dent, so be it, it won't make any measurable difference in performance), then take a piece of baling wire and wire it away from the frame.

OR, I would take it up to the fellows at my local auto shop and mention what is going on and what I suspect is causing it and ask them to "fix" it, while I have a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette and read a car magazine.

Reminds me of a back in the day story about when I bought a brand new 1970 MGB-GT. Under acceleration, a harsh rattle would come from the transmission tunnel. I took it back to the dealer. About 20 minutes later they told me it was fixed. I ask them how the fixed it. This Bubba type said he took a crowbar and put a dent in the transmission tunnel housing so the transmission wouldn't hit it when it torqued over. It never made a sound after that - :thumbsup:

Idk what exhaust you have, but I want it now!

Loosen all exhaust components, insert a pry bar/wedge between the subframe and the overpipe/downpipe and hold it. Now tighten all exhaust components. They should now bolt back up with the margin needed to not hit the frame causing the rattling and vibrations.

So there's no exhaust leak?


No name brand on the exhaust?


Did you weld the parts yourself?


Maybe you installed the muffler in the collector location and the collector in the muffler location?


No additional information that could possibly aid in good resolutions and prevent us from coming up with nonsense remarks?:drool:
