Three guys you've probably never heard of recently*broke a speed record*most people don't care about—the New York to Los Angeles run referred to colloquially among aficionados as the Cannonball. Unlike most speed records and races, there's no sanctioning body or official rules. That's because setting a Cannonball record invariably involves breaking multiple traffic laws. In other words, it's illegal. But that doesn't stop people from doing it...

From the article...

I am all for autobahn type (or at least higher) speed limits on US interstates, but those don't exist. These guys should go to jail, now. I don't car how "careful and experienced" they were. They've basically confessed to a crime in every jurisdiction they went through.

Endangering others all the way through

Probably not. Around town not stopping at red lights helps quite a bit. On the highway people are slow to get of the way. Plus everyone slows down when they see the lights on top of it. That's why the cops wait until they are your ass to throw the light on if they aren't rookies.

IDK if their "thin-blue-line" shirts were going to help them avoid a ticket, but they are a nice touch.

The things people do these days to get fame... Women whoring themselves out for Instagram and then these men risking lives to get internet high fives from the other db car bros. Crazy times.

This should be an automatic lifetime revocation of the drivers license if/when they are caught playing this game. It's all recorded though so, every bit of video evidence should be distributed
to every jurisdiction they pass/passed through and then heavy fines be given out first then revoke the license.

Toman said he’s not too worried about any law enforcement agency gathering the evidence needed to issue any violations postmortem. Just in case, he’ll be waiting a year to release any potentially incriminating video of the feat.
So waiting a year gets them off the hook?

I wouldn't think so. Besides, there has to be some existing traffic cam video of them which is pretty easy to determine speeds from. That's how they do those "5 to 8 minutes to I75" realtime signs. They measure the time it takes a specific car to travel between two cameras.

In the end no one probably wants to take the time to do it at this point.

Always good to pass the torch within the fraternity of lunatics.

Congrats Arne, Doug, and Berkeley!

Unbelievable they would be so public about committing serial felonies. The dark side of narcissism.

Besides the reckless ground crew, I think their co-conspirator recon pilot should also lose his flight certificate for awhile.

Really disgusting behavior though they'll all probably walk.

Didn't see mention of a aircraft being involved, only an "aircraft tracking system" which was most likely an ADS-B receiver paired with something like Foreflight or FlyQEFB on an iPad for mapping.

ADS-B is a device that receives position information from an ADS-B sending unit in most aircraft. Not all aircraft have these units but most likely a police unit would at this point (it becomes mandatory in January 2020 for any aircraft flying within most controlled airspace).

Yes, I use ADS-B routinely.

I watched a long form video of their race a month or so ago, maybe the same one above that I didn't watch. In it, they relied on daylight aerial surveillance, video recording and reporting from a single engine prop plane.
