Would you wait 12 months?

I'm sorta disappointed with Toyota. The most hyped-up, over-marketed vehicle in years, and the best they can do is say "it's a 12-18 month wait".

Not that it's really phased my decision (deposit down). I'm just annoyed.

What's the skinny on this? Is it just to produce a more exclusive vibe or did they really underestimate the demand for these cars?

Why is it so hard for people to understand?

For the price this car has NO competition.

You cannot walk into a dealership and walk out with a 2 door RWD sports car brand new for under $43-34k...

This opens up the market to a whole lot of people who other wise would not be able to afford a $70k+ 370z or similer...

No shit they didn't expect this much, the factory cannot supply more cars to Aus it can't handle it.

Relax, man. You seem kinda pissed! Do you work at Toyota or something?

Anyway, I know a few people who were willing to fork out for one, but got turned off the waiting period and decided to get something else. Sorta doesn't make Toyota look that great, considering the amount of exposure the car is getting in advertising, media, etc. They're also losing some coin.

My dealer mentioned out of the 5 or so orders that have been placed, he expects at least 1 or 2 to bail, which means I'll move up the cue. Dunno, it all sounds a bit fabricated to me. Other dealers have confirmed with their stock controllers stock in November. Mind you, these 2 dealers are allied dealership within the same area.

Was told what the wait is and happy to wait as long as it takes. Would I like it now? Hell yes, but waiting comes with other benefits. We should get some of the UK's allotment, but it won't happen so have to be patient

Ordred in may, estimated january. Not happy to wait, but at least I know it'll be worth it. Other brands have similar waiting times, and it's not even new models. I guess it's just that the car itself is so exciting the wait seems infinitely longer.

Wow. That's an eternity. Who knows what kind of cars will come out during that period.

I am not sure as to what your budget is and I am unsure of what cars cost in Australia.

Perhaps there's a nice sports car out there waiting for you.

I put down the deposit for a white MT just before Christmas 2011. Dealer told me I was going to get it Aug/Sept, but now it has been delayed by 2 months. Of course I wasn't too happy about that, but I am sure it will be well worth the wait.

Cars are generally pricier in Oz than everywhere else. I've had my heart set on a 370Z for the longest time, then along came the 86...

Look, at the end of the day, I don't mind waiting because it is worth it. I just wanted to separate dealer bullshit from actual fact.

st162celica 08-05-2012 09:56 AM

I have been waiting 19 months since I decided I'm getting the 86. Still another 2 months to go.

Of course its worth the wait. (Well it is for me)

Well my dealer told me the demand for MT in Japan is far greater than estimated and I can have my car a lot sooner if I want an AT instead. Being a stubborn MT guy I declined.

AndreaCristiano 08-05-2012 10:44 AM

I am already waiting for my lease to expire so its not a big deal! Gives me time to decide whiteout or Hot Lava :/

ft86Fan 08-05-2012 10:53 AM

Are these cars really so difficult to get? I called maybe 6 dealers and found exactly what I wanted and picked it up the next week. 2 of those dealers called me back in less than a month and told me they now have the car I wanted available. Is it because of the part of the country I'm in?

armythug 08-05-2012 10:58 AM

I placed an order a few months back. My main concern is that a new model year is coming. If I don't get my car in October as promised......Or by Christmas, I will want the next year model.

FRiSson 08-05-2012 11:03 AM

I suspect that A/NZ is at the end of the pipeline. If you are asking if it is worth it to wait 12 months, I think it is.
