Yonaka Scion FR-S Exhaust Prototyping

Here are a few shots of the Yonaka Motorsports exhaust prototyping.

System should be ready for market this fall. There will actually be two systems available, what is shown here is the axle back system which is similar in layout to the OEM system (only lighter, better flowing and much prettier). The axleback system will bolt to the factory midpipe location.

There will also be a dual muffler system that will be a full catback, eliminating many of the more restrictive sections of the factory exhaust.

I guess I"ll start with the basic questions most will want to know;

1. Dyno results of both systems
2. Estimated Price
3. Sound clip.

Thank you

1) It will be some time before final production pieces are ready. The muffler shown is a mule, final dimensions will likely change. Of course, dynos will be made public once we have final specs and production ready pieces on hand.

The axleback won't make enormous amounts of power, truth be told there isn't enormous restriction in the OEM system at the final axle-back section. The catback system will undoubtedly show much larger gains, since the OEM midpipe is crimped more than once and has multiple hard bends that will be removed in the full system.

Having said that, usually we leave most of the dyno "proof" in the hands of our real world customers. That prevents the type of BS claims we saw running rampant in that other companies thread...

2) Axleback will be ~$450 and the dual muffler full catback system will be ~$650. Those are estimated MSRPs, dealers may sell for less.

3) I'll post some clips next week, the projects car doesn't even have breakin miles completed yet so we need to run the muffler for a bit and be able to take it to redline before we can record video/sound clips.

I didn't know Phil Donahue was into motorsports. Sweet!

LOL, that's Ed Crilly from Wicked Garage. He's been the lead on the fabrication of the Yonaka FR-S exhaust project. We're very lucky to be able to work with him and his crew. He's a local legend in the racing & hot rod scene in Eastern Ontario.

The guys at WG have been awesome to work with, they do bad ass work on bad ass cars. If you're bored, check out some the wild projects they've done...

If you dig into the albums on their facebook page, you can find many more photos of the FR-S exhaust buildup.

650?? Oh baby, bookmarked.

More pictures of the full catback system prototyping.

Please note these were taken with an iphone "in progress" while we were building the system. So yes, I know the tips aren't lined up in one photo and the system seems to be hanging too low in another (because it's not hooked up to the midpipe). But it gives you an overall feel for the system...

Looks good. Love the two canisters branching out in the back, similar to the SRT system, but much cheaper than their catback!

if dynos show a good amount of gain, you have my money!!!

Yeah, you invented the "Y" dual canister exhaust. GTFO of here with that garbage.

That "design" has been in the import scene for at least 20 years, hell I remember the early 90s when HKS did the Super Dragger for the MR-2 in the same overall design. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're just too young to remember that.

You stay in your thread, we'll stay in ours.

yup!

HKS, phoenix's power, garage fukui all designed the Y dual canister back in the 90s

no matter how similar the design is, it all comes down to performance and price

right now yonaka is +1 on price
