Is our paint really that bad?

I keep hearing that our paint is thin and brittle which makes me a bit worried. I was just wondering what issues people are having with their paint? And how often is it a problem?

Well the first thread you posted is a discussion about re-painting the car because of the paint rumors.

The other five threads are people who found rock chips on their car. But who makes a car that is impervious to rock chips? Doesn't mean the paint is no good.

washed my car today and used the two bucket system. I tried being real gentle and still ended up with a longggg scratch mark on the trunk. I have opticoat on the car so hopefully it didn't penetrate that far =(

I don't know about the metal, but it is definitely very thin on the plastic pieces (bumper).

I don't use the two bucket system. One bucket is fine for me and about 10 microfibers. I just use 1 towel for each panel. Larger panels require 2 or 3 if you're being careful. This way you'll always have a fresh microfiber.

No one said the paint is thin, in fact it's pretty thick from what I've seen and the gloss quality is high as well, the only problem is it's soft. Etching is very easy on this paint.

sheesh 10 microfibers. Is this how everybody is washing their cars in a scratch free manner? I'm using the mitt and two buckets :iono:

Not sure about 'everybody', but that's how I've started doing it too
