New BMW M340i

Anyone got an opinion or experience with this car yet? I'm considering adding as my daily...

Of all new BMWs coming out, the M340i is the perfect daily. I’ve driven a lot of the G20 330i’s and a handful of M340is. It’s a great looking car and drives amazing. It’s the perfect size; not too big or too small. Sounds fantastic as well. My favorite part is definitely the interior. Of course it’s a luxury car so it’s very comfortable and once you get used to everything, it becomes second nature. Go and test drive one and see for yourself! Good luck

Thanks. That is reassuring to hear. It looks like I'm going to have to order it to get it how I want. So many damn options that the likelihood that a dealer has exactly what I want in stock is like 1/10000000. They can get me a rwd a few weeks sooner than an awd, so not sure if it's worth waiting for or if I'd prefer the rwd anyway. I'm in socal, so don't need the awd for anything more than off the line grip = 3/10 of a second faster 0-60 time.

I actually enjoyed the M340i more than the current gen M3/M4 (non competition). I think it's a great car, but like all german luxury cars be ready to lose your ass in deprecation if you buy new

Lease..... I have learned from experience never to buy an expensive german luxury car (new or used). Lease deals are really good, 60% residual after 3 years / 36k miles. From my experience they sell for about 40-50% after 3 years so much cheaper. Plus in CA you pay a LOT less tax.

Test drive a Tesla M3P before you buy.

I do like the M3P, but don't know how my access to regular charging will be over the next 3 years... so electric is kind of out.

Well if you order, they have a lot of good colors to choose from and the wheel choices are great as well. You could try the AWD since you already have a RWD 86 :iono: but yeah it’s definitely the perfect, practical “sports” sedan.

Weird, it won't let me quote your comment.

The options are bit much. Everything has so many variations. There are like 5 or 6 different wheels which each can come with runflats or real tires, 5 different leathers with multiple stitching options each, 2 variations of aluminum trim or 2 variations of open pore wood trim or glossy wood trim.... and every option is like that.... Don't want to waste the time doing the math, but I'd imagine the total number of unique combinations for this car is in the millions.

I'm thinking... black metallic w/ mocha leather and grey open pore wood
The M adaptive suspension is only $500 yet most of the ones on dealer lots don't have them... who on earth would pay $65k for a 382hp 'sports' sedan and then cheap out on $500 for adaptive suspension? I guess if you planned to put it on coilovers?

Makes sense. Try a 5-series before you get the 3. Much nicer.

Well better to have too many than not enough right? Of course pick what you like, but I wouldn’t worry about the little things like the stitching and all that. I would also get all the “performance” options like the suspension you mentioned. The base 330i handles well, so I’m sure the M340i with M adaptive suspension is worth $500. We pay 3 times that for our coilovers lol

Also, good idea on the lease. I love BMWs but unless I had stupid money, I wouldn’t buy new either. Get yourself a good deal on a lease and you got yourself the perfect daily for a few years

I find getting them old, the issues are a constant headache even if you have excess cash. I used to enjoy it, but now I'm too busy to deal with it.

My order is in. Black on black, open pore oak (dark/black raw wood), pilot sport 4s w/ spare tire, Premium package, harmon kardon stereo, parking assist (I like the top down camera), and of course the adaptive M Suspension

Lease deal was really really good... residual is way more than it will be worth in 3 years and they gave some huge discounts. I got $7k off msrp + $3k in incentives. My payment isn't going to be much more than my 5 year loan on the 86. ($0 down). Not normal for them to be so aggressive... dealership was quiet.. maybe there is a recession coming :)

Quite prophetic in retrospect...
