BRZ vs 350Z

Not a bad clip, I’d take the BRZ.

I'm not surprised they're that close honestly, cool video.
I was considering both the 350Z and BRZ when car shopping. After driving the Z I walked away miffed. It just doesn't feel like a 300hp car in a straight line. In the corners it felt heavy, the engine didn't feel very willing to rev, and it felt thin in the metal and significantly chintzier than the BRZ. Before I drove any of the cars I was expecting to buy the 350Z. After driving the BRZ for a mile I knew I wasn't going to.

350Z won every race

So if you want to beat twins buy a 350Z

I almost got a 370Z but decided on a 86, because back seats.

Plus the 86 was like 20k cheaper than the Nissan.

Did there really need to be a video on these two?

I test drove both and obviously liked how the BRZ handled better. I came from a MS3 so both cars felt slow in the straights lol. I didn't care though, I wanted a "lightweight Miata coupe" type car.

Pricewise they are not that far apart on the used market which is the whole point of this series.

I test drove a 350 and did not care for it. The seating position is so funky I could never get comfortable in it.

I just came off of 2 days on track and there was a stock 350 and he got me on the longer straights and that was about it. I was out braking him by a big margin and exiting a lot faster. Car just looked heavy in turns.

I used to have a 350z. Really good car on paper. Double wishbone suspension, 3300 lbs, 3.5L NA, 300 hp. But kind of an under-achiever in reality. In corners, it felt heavier than it actually was. Not that fast in a straight line. Course engine. Vague shifter. Slow steering rack. Low-quality interior. Weird seating position.

One of the magazines once described it as having the moves of a strong safety. I think that's a perfect description.

Solid buy given how cheap you can pick one up for. But easy choice keeping my FR-S over the 350z.

Exactly! On paper it sounds fantastic, but it doesn’t deliver really. The BRZ is the opposite, underwhelming on paper, but when you drive it it feels so right.

FWIW they have sent a forum member's car around that track at a similar to time if we want to be fair and compare modded cars to another modded car.

EAGLE5 11-07-2019 01:45 PM

It's probably easier to get big power out of a Z. Bigger engine. Stouter block. Stouter transmission. No need for an LS swap.

But if you go through the work of a swap, I'd expect the twins to be faster.

Or you just buy a corvette.

bcj 11-07-2019 01:48 PM

Yeah, I guess the twins will never be the avid bench racer's weapon of choice.

:sigh:  :scared0012:

WolfpackS2k 11-07-2019 02:21 PM

350Z is definitely faster, but I can't imagine it ever being as satisfying to drive as a BRZ.

Yep, I'd take slower, lighter and handles better over heavier and faster in a straight line. You can always "fix" the car power wise, but making a heavy car lighter and being a liveable street car is more challenging.

If theres one thing the interwebs has taught me, is that anything you want to do to any car is easy as pie and people NOT doing it are morons for either complaining about it or not doing anything about iit.
