Turbo charging in Canada?
Hey everyone.
I have been getting mixed answers about when it comes to turbo charging a frs in Vancouver, Canada. Some say that our fuel is not as good as our friends down in the states and will only be capable of making around 230whp. But i have other people saying i can still make 300whp (my goal) using canadian chevron 94 octane and still be reliable. Im hoping i could get some info on who is correct in this situation! I am not that knowledgeable in tuning. Thanks! |

Just make sure it's tuned for your octane.

You could tune the car to run on rocket fuel, or on 87 octane - it won't be any more or less reliable if the tune is centered around that level of knock resistance. You're fine to turbo the car as long as the tune is done well!

The reality is that other than some very minor differences in additives and some slightly more restrictive Canadian allowances for things such as sulphur and benzene the fuel specs for each country are almost identical. Of course you can get bad gas here but the odds are no different than getting it in the US. The octane levels are identical in both countries so tuning for 93 here would be the exact same as in the US and the resulting HP would also be exactly the same. |
I didn't think they even sold turbos up there in canadialand

There are a few turbo cars running around locally running on Petro 94. One runs meth injection for added protection since it lives on the track.
Petro uses ethanol which is good for turbo cars according to a installer/shop in the area. Ultimately the quality of the gas in your area will determine what your tuner can do for power/reliability. Anywhere between 250-300whp is attainable depending on setup, boost and support mods. |

Of course once i boost the car im going to loose reliability. But i mean’t keeping the car somewhat reliable so i dont bend a connecting rod after only driving for 10,000kms.
