Cleaning center console rubber and underneath rubber

I was wondering what everyone uses to clean sticky residue off of rubber and what I should use to get clean rust left behind from a bolt and more sticky residue underneath the rubber part.

Hi drgnt and welcome to our forum -

I'd suggest you start with warm soapy water.

If that don't do it, try alcohol.

seriously, i know of a car auction that does this. and then they have signs posted by the cashiers desk that say they're not responsible for electrical issues.

Especially if you have to get rid of the evidence.

For anything sticky, hit it with something hot to break down the bond it has with the surface it has clung to. For rusty things, hit it with sandpaper first and then you can use the same hot soapy water to clean up your clean surface.

For instance, fill a bowl with hot water. Take a shop rag, or two paper towels folded into a square ( so they don't tear apart) and dip that into the water, try not to saturate the whole thing. Now take a small drop of dish soap onto it, and start cleaning. Take sure to have a dry rag to wipe the surface afterwards with, dish soap leaves a film.

I removed the entire console and washed everything liberally with Simple Green and the hose
