FS: Transmission with straight cut PAR-engineering gears
2 Attachment(s)
This is a stock transmission with the PAR engineering straight cut gears installed (was assembled by PAR engineering in Australia):
https://www.par-engineering.com/prod...ion-fr-s-copy/ This is the lightest transmission option for 400+ whp. The transmission has about 3000 km and was manufactured in February 2019. It also has the carbon synchros installed: https://www.verus-engineering.com/pr...on-synchro-kit The transmission whines as expected. The 1st gear is noisy but only when coasting (which one normally doesn't). $5000 obo (excl. shipping). PS: I added a picture of an racerX oil pan which has my name on it and can also be purchased. http://racerxfabrication.com/install...rz/oil-pan.pdf |
Great deal.
I have this exact set up with carbon synchros as well and I absolutely love it. Just curious why selling my guy? Also did you have initial grinding from 1st to second gear when hard shifting at high rpms? Did the synchros need a break in period at all? Cheers |
I didn't really notice a change after a break-in period. Also, I didn't notice any grinding when shifting. The only issue is the 1st gear noise when coasting (the play is probably not set entirely correctly).
But I noticed that fast shifting works better with a high viscosity transmission oil like this: https://www.motul.com/de/en/products...etition-75w140 I participate in slalom races with this car (autocross) and turboed the car as I was trying to reach the fastest raw time of all cars. But while I could beat the 4WD competition (mostly Evo's) I couldn't beat the Lotus Exige 430 cup. https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...w-first-drive/ Also, when the track was wet I was beaten by the 4WD competition too (unsurprisingly). The main issue is that this car has too much of a front bias and one loses too much time at the start and out of tight corners. (Well, besides the fact that it's heavier and less powerful than the Lotus). The other issue is that a turboed car is pretty needy (when raced) and I always had things that needed to be fixed (like needing a stronger transmission because 4th gear went to shreds on the original transmission). So, I decided to back to NA and with NA one doesn't need a strong transmission. Also, while it's cool to drive around with this transmission, I'm unsure whether I could get the car passed inspection with those straight cut gear-teeth (it's still a road-legal car and they are extremely picky here). THanks for the response!! I hope you dont miss that beautiful whine too much!
Great driving btw. |
Thank you.
Well, one certainly has the attention with this transmission as people are not used to this sort of noise. Btw, I was waiting over 6 months for this transmission after ordering it. PAR was reluctant delivering a complete transmission (not just the gear-set). |

This is how it sounds in the cabin:
