Metallic Rasp from engine bay

Hey guys,

For a while now I have had this strange metallic rasp coming from my engine bay. It happens during low rpms and it doesnt matter if the clutch is depressed or not. Also it happens during startup and when I shift and let off the clutch. My guess is the flywheel. Want to know what you guys think before i drop the trans.

Hello Heidorf and welcome to the forum - :)

I really don't hear anything unusual - :iono:

(however, my hearing ain't too good)

How many miles on your car?

Any power mods?

Can you get a stethoscope kind of thing on it, to isolate where the sound is coming from?

Although your car is a 2015, I would suspect a TOB going bad before the flywheel being bad.

PS - it looks like you have a ground strap that is not bolted down??

1. A bolt is missing for that ground strap
2. The cover for that hole in the transmission is completely missing. Did you take it off to get a better clue as to the noise or did the cover fall into the transmission? Just forgot to replace it?
3. Did the bolt for the ground strap fall INTO the hole?

could be an idler bearing

When my TOB was going out, you could hear a slight grinding sound Everytime I have my foot on the clutch coming from the engine bay inside the cabin. My guess could be the TOB they tend to go out around 40k

Thanks for the welcome!

I dont have any power mods, just have a MXP frontpipe and catback and the sound started well after those mods. Got about 37k on it currently and the trans cover and ground bolt was like that when I bought the car.

The sound is definitely between the trans and engine, i checked mutiple times.

This morning my car wouldnt start :(

When it was turning over it was choking and it sounded like the flywheel was just spinning. Ill have to upload a clip of it when I get home.

Thanks for letting me know but from what I know both the bolt for the ground strap and the cover for the trasmission opening was like that when i bought the car.

I never touched either of those two and Im pretty sure nothing fell into it.

When you say it wouldn't start, do you mean it wouldn't turn over or wouldn't fire?

Wouldn't fire, ill have to upload a clip when I get home. As it was turning over it would choke then make a spinning metal on metal sound.

Heres the clip of this POS not starting, Im kinda lost. Hopefully this gives a better idea with whats going on.
