UEL or EL headers for Turbo Setup?
First time making a post so if this is the wrong section, I apologize.
I will also preface this by saying I am by no means a tuning expert AT ALL. I drove a bone stock BRZ for 6 years and recently bought a 2017 BRZ w/ sport package, a turbo and exhaust setup already installed. - SBD 500X turbo kit 10lb boost - Ark grip exhaust The car feels significantly better, tighter, faster, more responsive, but it has not completely resolved the ~4000 rpm torque dip. From my research, it seems that an Unequal Length Header setup + flash tune helps a lot. My questions are: does the turbo kit interfere with getting UEL headers or the tune? Which brand of UEL headers & tune should I look into for a turbo setup? Is this actually the best way for me to resolve the torque dip or should I look into another modification? Any help is appreciated! |
the turbo is part of the header. you can't have any other header.
get it tuned. |

There's no way the turbo did not remove the torque dip. If it still feels like car car has one, it's because the timing map is trash, or it's pulling timing because of knock.
With the SBD, or any "kit" that's made, you can't just swap header design - the placement of the turbo is absolutely critical to every aspect of the rest of the kit, and no two "kits" put the turbo in the same spot. Moving it even 2" in any direction means oil lines, coolant lines (if applicable), intercooler piping and exhaust reworks are needed. Changing the header on a turbo kit would definitely require a re-tune as well. I'm just telling you so you know, not being condescending. Equal length is better for power in all regards, especially with turbo. Anything you read regarding equal length vs unequal length and tuning is specific to naturally aspirated (non turbo/supercharged) vs forced induction (turbo(supercharged). I'd definitely figure out what was used to tune your car. If you're unsure, I wouldn't drive it hard at all, and immediately look into a tuning solution. You can get the Openflash tablet, ECUtek, or BRZedit l. These are the three main solutions (BRZedit being the least supported). I'd recommend ECUtek, but all in you're at about $1,000 without even being tuned. Openflash is about $499 and this is generally good enough for a basic SBD turbo kit. Several people do remote tuning if you don't have a tuning shop nearby. Ok. That's the basic gist - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29340 here's more on tuning. |

Unless you do the Works turbo. then you can pick any header you want. |
That car should absolutely rip if the tune and fuel quality are good
