An "A" pillar handle on the passenger side won't hurt

I wish the small rear side windows popped out like this. I know we will never get them. Still, I think it would be really nice.

Why not? The Toyota 2000GT had pop out rear quarter windows!

That is not even on my radar. Something more like this.

On one hand,I think its a really good idea, considering that airflow in this car with the windows down is pretty awful(at least for me).On the other hand, reaching to open them,in the car's current configuration, would kinda be a bitch, especially for those with shorter arms.

Ah... the front windows are power so why wouldn't the factory make the rear quarter windows power as well? I've had several vehicles (mini van, suv) with them. Check out the web, lots of people with store bought and DIY power rear quarter windows.

WolfpackS2k 02-07-2020 01:18 PM

^that would add a considerable amount of weight, for a pretty dumb design feature (IMO).

Similar to how some want their brand new jeans ripped, I want rust bubbles on the rear quarter panel from the factory.

should have bought a mazda!

If they keep the B-pillars the way they are/similar: Place to put side facing cameras under the glass.
Naturally Aspirated
Digital dash (with actual 80's aesthetic since that's what they were thinking)
Head unit that isn't garbage

Probably more, but that's off the top of my head.

If I could physically fit in a Miata and not press the clutch and brake at the same time, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

I think "digital" and "head unit that isn't garbage" clash. If it's a true drivers car, the enthusiast would be very happy with timeless analog gauges and controls. Digital speed is nice and maybe gear selection, but this whole infotainment trend is getting out of hand.

Broseph 02-10-2020 09:41 AM

At least just make the headunit double-DIN so it can swapped out, and don’t put important CANbus vehicle controls in it.

mazeroni 02-10-2020 02:34 PM

Nah, considering the issues and complaints that both Toyota and Subaru have had with their aftermarket head units since the cars were first release, to fix the issue and standardize things, you are getting either A) or B).

Take your pick. Large vertical style touchscreen, or top mounted horizontal screen.

Good luck, folks.

B) https://article.images.consumerrepor...egacy-int-2-19

But I would smitten with the digital gauge cluster from Lexus.

IMHO, if you want to see digital screens done right, look at the one in the upcoming 2021 Escalade (Below and in this video.

Props to GM for understanding what a car dash should look like!

Petah78 02-10-2020 03:17 PM

The car is built to a budget and i am mostly fine for what the current car already offers. I think these attributes are important to maintain:

- Drivetrain layout (FR)
- Maintain current weight distribution (54/46) or better
- Maintain current weight or lighter

What I would like to see:

- A high revving N/A engine with a power band in the upper rev range (think K20/F20) without oiling issues. (I would be willing to pay more money for the car if this actually happened)
- Footwell heat/AC ventilation that actually works.
- "Holy shit" handles for passengers.

Tuck an old towel under the seat and between the console and seat for the winter. The foot well vents actually work great when they don't have to fight the cold air circulating under the seat for the first half hour of travel.

Thanks but I am having problems picturing this. When you referenced console, you mean center console? Like the side of seat where the seat belt buckle resides?

I thought this was the "holy shit" handle mod... just hang onto this old towel I bolted to the seat...

Yep. Next time you are driving and it is cold just stick your hand down between the seat and the center console and feel the cold draft coming up from the back seat. The rest of the car can be nice and warm and under there just keeps moving cold air around and freezing your feet.

I think it looks awesome. However this used to look awesome to me 25 years ago:

Now it looks funny. I think that would be the future of the today's fancy screens. Analog lasts longer.

I don't disagree (I prefer analog) but the difference is that in the new Escalade the dash is configurable so it looks like analog gauges. The one you show is digital gauges rather than a digital display.

To me it's like the difference between a digital watch that just shows number and a digital display watch where you can make it look like just about any analog watch.

EDIT: adding photo of it in "run" rather than "navigate" mode.

I actually prefer screens, even the digital digits, to analog gauges.

What I tried to say is, the screen technology is getting sophisticated very fast, and it seems to keep this trend at least for a while. So a screen that looks great today will not give the same feeling after a few years. So using less the latest, edge screen technology would probably last longer.

I also don't like something pretend as something it is not. If I had a digital display, I would use its fancy graphics with pleasure, not want it to pretend like an analog one. (Edit: this does not mean I didn't like that picture, on the contrary.)
