2013 Scion FRS engine failure

My 2013 Scion FRS with just 17,000 miles on it, had engine failure after getting the JO2(valve springs) recall. The diagnosis was rod bearing failure due to oil starvation. The cause was a blockage in the oil channels. This car was only ever serviced at a Toyota dealer. This is what caused engine failure in every 2013 Scion FRS that had this recall done. Apparently, the sealant they used for the job, got into the oil and caused the blockage. Toyota is very aware of the issue but has yet to take any responsibility. This does not affect models after 2013. The cost to the owner is between $6,000-7,000. There is a class action lawsuit being put together. It costs the owners nothing. I just want to be reimbursed for the repairs. Below is the lawsuit info.

Don't forget to file a complaint with the NHTSA

Yes, I did that also. Great point, the more that also share there experience with the NHTSA on the website the better.

The failure is not Toyota's fault. it is a Dealer warrantable issue.

I will never do this recall.
I am surprised people are still doing it after the disaster news

It not a dealer issue! First of all, a dealer will never acknowledge that the failure was due to there work from the recall. That has already failed for many. Secondly, Subaru sent specific instructions to be very careful when applying the sealant. Toyota had nothing in the recall instructions given to the dealers that instructed them on using the sealant. The vast majority of engine failure after the recall were the Toyota Scions. So, Toyota did instruct the dealers on how to properly handle these recalls. This engine failure is not only costly to the owner but also very dangerous. My son was driving this car.
