DAMAGE REPORT

Welp, ol humfrz did it again, I backed into something - :bonk:
This time it was with my FR-S. While backing out of a space in a parking lot, I slowly backed into a big, gray, giant pickup truck, that was parked. The paint isn't cracked (except for the small chip below the tail light. What do you think it will take to fix it? Ya reckon a good PDR person can push/pull it back out? How much do you thing it will cost to repair it? humfrz - :sigh: |

Not sure if there is much PDR to be done since it's plastic. Maybe a little heat and massaging the ABS if you really want to try to smooth things over after popping it out |
Oh no!
Time to get you peepers check, or for the love of all things holy spend a little money on a back up camera. I don't know what the current rate up in your neck of woods, but over here it's about $800-1000 fix for a PDR dude. I say if your cheap enough I would pull off the bumper, heat it up then pop the dent out, reinstall and call it a day. But I would start off with a toilet plunger first. Or use this method: https://youtu.be/8YIVc7b6ppw |

Hot water dent repair.
Or take it to a paintless dent guy. Few hundred bucks. A body shop is most likely going to want to replace the bumper, and repaint to get rid of paint spidering, probably around $2k for a decent shop |
I missed the chance!
WHERE'S BUBBA NOW?!? |

So, I won't be buying a Civic from you? Good idea about a backup camera, my Kenwood head unit is set up for a camera. But, but, what if the camera is of the type that "objects are closer than they appear"? Then I'm still screwed. Maybe I need one of those proximity sensor things that slaps me up side the head if I get too close to something - :iono: Maybe I'll give that "heat and pull" method a try. Thanks for your input. humfrz |

Pop it out with a heat gun
|
Perhaps it's time to install some sensors on the bumper.. you're taking it off, 2 birds with 1 stone....
|
I would do this:
If I turned this road trip blunder around using just a hotel coffee maker, you can do a better job. :lol: https://media.vinwiki.com/data/1626/...39/img_960.jpg https://media.vinwiki.com/data/1626/...ad/img_960.jpg |
@humfrz
That lower part of the rear bumper cover just pops right off. You can fully remove it, or just unclip the side you're repairing. Remove tail light and like 5 or 6 pop rivets and the bumper just unclips. Takes less than 15 minutes to remove it. So just take it off and maaaybeeeee heat it up with a hair dryer, that dent should pop right out and you'll be back into shape without paying someone $200 to do exactly the same. I blame the lead. Now your FRS looks like 99% of Camrys.
