How long did you wait for your FR-S?

This subject has probably been mentioned in other posts, but I'm just curious. I've been calling dealership after dealership and nobody knows when they're getting their allocations in so I can't even put my name down for a car. I am ending week 2 of this journey and I just want to give myself a reality check of when I can expect to get into my FR-S. Thoughts???

kendalldwhite 08-03-2012 06:04 PM

Your in for a treat lol I ordered mine 4 weeks ago and still waiting. Your best bet is to keep searching and find a dealership that has one on the lot and hall ass up there to get it.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to get figured out. It sucks b/c there's one in the area in Whiteout, but it's a M/T. Hope you get yours soon!

punchdrunkjuice 08-03-2012 06:07 PM

I myself had put my deposit down in early April. I finally took delivery at my own dealership on 7.10 (I work for O'Brien Toyota in Indianapolis) Curious, are you looking for the MT or the Auto? I have two customers waiting for their MT's whose orders were just allocated to us after a month, but still have around a month and a half to see delivery. I like to update the soon to be owners bi-weekly as I'm sure they'll be as anxious as I was waiting for mine.

The only issues I have been seeing in our market is the availability of the manual transmissions. I hope this is helpful for you.

punchdrunkjuice 08-03-2012 06:09 PM

We have had one to two auto's on the lot pretty regularly since they launched. With the last two being Firestorm and Whiteout.

kendalldwhite 08-03-2012 06:10 PM

Dealer ship told me. 4 to 6 weeks so it will be anytime. The wait has gave me enough time to get most of my aftermarket parts before the car gets in know what i mean.

Someone messaged me telling me there was 1 in spring TX, but Im sure u wouldn't want to travel that far. what color and a/t or m/t u looking for?

I'm actually looking for an automatic. I was able to get my hands on one to test drive, but it was in Asphalt and I wasn't interested in the color. Still looked good, but really had my heart set on white. I'm also glad that I didn't end up buying that car off of the lot b/c the salesman drove it like an idiot. Not sure how many test drives that car has been on, but I don't want my car to be abused before I own it.

Anyways, yes your post has been helpful. I just need to be patient. Good thing my old Corolla hasn't kicked the bucket yet... :crossfingers:

kendalldwhite 08-03-2012 06:12 PM

how long they sit for before someone grabs them? 10 to 15 mins after getting off the truck Im guessing

If you don't want to wait, the nearest FRS in the color you want is just a drive away (though the manuals are harder to find on lots right now)...

Check cars.com within 100 miles of where you live...you might be surprised.

that was the agreement between me and my dealer that know one would drive it besides one person getting it off the truck. And after that parking it, with no customers or employees touching or anything or i wouldn't buy it. He said it was no problem there for i put a 13k down and another 8k when i pick it up.

Holy moly! Well you basically paid for the call in full! No wonder you got what you wanted!! Yeah that's why I can't wait to put down my deposit because the dealership told me that once you've put down your deposit, those keys are only accessible to very few people. The salesmen are excluded from this group so they can't take the claimed cars on test drives.

24 hours :)

DarkSunrise 08-03-2012 06:25 PM

I ordered mine last weekend. Got a call on Wednesday stating delivery was expected around August 29. Not too bad, about a month wait between order and delivery.

BTW, one thing I'd recommend is ordering your car through a large Scion dealer. Seems to make a difference in terms of allocation (i.e., the dealer has a better chance of getting the exact car you want).

By the way, I noticed you're in Chantilly. PM me if you're interested in taking my order for a whiteout 6mt FR-S in Maryland (scheduled to arrive at the end of the month). I've been thinking about switching to firestorm...

punchdrunkjuice 08-03-2012 07:06 PM

The Firestorm was there for about a week the whiteout for a day and a half, the next due in is another Firestorm should reach us anyday now.

The funny thing about that is that we are not a large Scion dealer, we have just earned a large enough allocation from all the units we've delivered thus far.

AKS 08-03-2012 07:13 PM

I decided that I was going to buy one at about 8am last Friday morning. Went on cars.com and found a Hot Lava at a dealership about 40 miles away. Called them and put $500 down over the phone, swung by to take a look at it and test drive it on Sat. and I picked it up on Tuesday. :D

Mr. Mcoupe 08-03-2012 07:17 PM

Still waiting for the Signal Yellow Pearl color to come out.

About 5 Days the week they were released. My old car had broken down so i needed to get one ASAP so i shopped around a lot in that week.

DrifterX 08-03-2012 07:44 PM

I ordered at the end of June and got delivered my ride yesterday. So about a month and some change.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm looking for an automatic. I'm lame and can't drive stick. I also don't think I would want a manual in NoVa traffic for a daily driver. Thanks again! Good luck with getting your Firestorm.

Psst! Take it as your opportunity to learn! They have a warranty for a reason.

That's awesome! Yeah, that's kinda why I've been looking around. I took my car to get an oil change and a 100-point inspection (Groupon) and they were naming things left and right that I should repair. Ended being around a $3000 quote. Thought to myself it wasn't worth it to put into a 15-year-old car. Already had my eye on the FR-S so I decided to take the plunge.

Yeah the one near me is part of a pretty large auto park. The problem is they're not taking 'orders'. They just call people that have talked to the dealership recently when one or more of their top 3 color choices have come in and they can put down a $500 deposit to claim the car.

great idea

FRSPirate 08-03-2012 07:55 PM

One day.

I went in on memorial day to inquire about the car and possibly put down a deposit. He looked up what he had coming to the dealership and said there was a black 6spd on it's way and it was available to purchase. He predicted the car would be there in a couple days. Next day i call him to set up a time to get my trade in evaluated. He said anytime i wanted to stop by was fine. 30 min later he called me and said it was going to be delivered that day. 30 min after that call he called me again with his first words being "Guess what i just drove fresh off the truck..." Went to the dealer and picked up my car with 3 mi on the ODO.

Awesome! Saw a picture of a Firestorm at a dealership nearby. From the pictures it looked like it had about 400 mi. I definitely want my fresh like yours!

It was a good 45 min long. Told the sales guy I really wanted to get a feel for it and he was fine with it. Plus, I already had a deposit down and my financing through my credit union in place. And I really didn't have crap to do that day and I had to drive an hour each way to the dealer so I decided to make the most of it. :D
