As a point of reference, in roughly high 40sF on the highway the OBD2 port is reading around 165-167°F. It goes up once off the highway, but not above 180°F.

So, since the oil temp sensor is post-cooler - and since CSG says to add 30-40F for pre-cooler temps - it looks to be running around 200°F or so on the highway with an ambient temp of between 45-50F.

Added some gaffer tape to cover the grille opening at the oil cooler and tried it out in 60°F temp. On the street with some spirited driving the temp came up to 190°F even on a drive of less than 5 miles.

Pretty comfortable and confident that this cooler is entirely usable on the street and provides more than enough headroom for track use.

I just got a Greddy Oil Cooler and doing the install in the next week or so. For cutting, did you just trial and error til it fit? Also, was it only cuts on the side section, or the bottom and top as well?

Yes, just trial and error. It took a few tries. And also yes, it was just the one side that needed trimming.

Thank you @Chuckable for all of the photos. The ducting trimming especially will be really helpful as I have a 2017 BRZ and just received my red limited edition Greddy cooler (the price was too good to pass up for a new cooler, the regular 2017+ cooler would have cost me almost $500CAD more...)

As a note for others for alternate oil filters for something more readily available, the Fram XG4386 should fit the sandwich plate perfectly. Has the same thread pitch (3/4-16), similar OD (68mm) and height (88mm) to the Greddy OX-03. Gasket sizing should sit properly as well. And of course it has an Anti-Drainback valve and the rest of it.

Despite some of Fram's cheaper filters getting a bad rap, these Fram Ultra filters have awesome feedback from all the nerds over at BITOG.

Ended up getting a bunch of Greddy OX-03s from RHDJapan for cheaper than what it would have cost locally, which means I can finally install the cooler next weekend!

Does anyone have a DIY available or specific instructions/tips? The provided instructions are in Japanese and I can’t find anything online. I google translated them with the app but I’m still buggin’ out a little bit. I know I should lube all my o-rings with oil prior to install, etc.

I’ve done my fair share of work on this car myself (basically everything on my car has been installed myself including coilovers, etc.) but just want to be cautious because a leaky oil cooler is no bueno, and I haven’t worked with AN fittings before.

Did you need to use thread sealing tape anywhere? I see a note on the translated instructions recommending to do so but I’m not sure on what lol. Also, how much extra oil needed to be added with the cooler install?

I did not use any thread sealing tape anywhere based on my understanding of AN fittings, and once I got them properly snug, I’ve had no leaks.

Install complete (99%)! Took me about 6 hours from start to finish, including prep and cleanup. Didn’t need to trim the ducting for my 17 BRZ which is awesome.

Only issue I have is some oil weeping from the 3 small hex bungs on the sensor adapter while the car is running. I’ll pull them off in the morning and add some high temp thread sealant on each bung.

Luckily, everything else went smoothly and I seem to have no other leaks from any of the AN fittings even after running for 5 mins.

I added around 0.5qts of oil for initial startup but the oil level was just above the low mark on my dipstick. Added another 0.5 and it’s just above the half way point. So this cooler adds at least another quart of capacity if not more. I’ll probably add a bit more tomorrow to get it up full.

I took plenty of photos of the whole process and I’ll put the DIY up in a separate thread over the next few days.

UPDATE: High Temp thread sealant fixed the leaking!

As for oil level with the car sitting for a night the car was reading full when I got back to it this morning, so no need to add any extra. Oil cooler increased capacity by exactly 1L.
