Loose bolt in engine/transmission assembly?
I randomly decided to take a look at my engine bay today and noticed a bolt that appears loose where I assume the transmission connects to the engine itself. I do not have the right tools to check if it is actually loose, can anyone shed some light if this is anything serious that could be a problem for concern?
Thinking about taking it to the dealership so they can double check all the bolts, since the engine was out of my car @5k miles for service. Thanks. https://i.ibb.co/3fFHmcm/20190829-161920.jpg https://i.ibb.co/m0G5hMw/20190829-162022.jpg |
That bolt definitely should not be sticking out like that. 14mm, tighten it up or bring it somewhere. Have whomever check all are torqued down correctly.
That bolt is helping to hold the transmission to the engine. |
The engine was out of your car at 5k for service? What happened at 5k?

Engine was out..... Technician F'ed up and forgot to tighten that bolt. I would have them re-torque all the bolts and do a good inspection.
Edit. Make sure it is documented so if any quality issues come up in the future. |
Indeed it was loose, after the car cooled down I was able to finger tighten it back for now.
And yes, I had a CEL at 5k so the engine was out to perform fixes. The car is now at 21k. |

In regards to the loose bolt OP... if you don’t have the tools and mechanical confidence to address the issue, let the dealership deal with it and ask that they recheck all bolts. Bolts such as that one that hold the engine and transmission together are quite vital. |
Meanwhile, I suggest you just snug the bolt up. Snug = hand tight then 1/2 turn more with an open or box end wrench.

Thank god for this post cause I got OCD and checked my transmission bolts after getting a TOB repair done by the dealership. One of my transmission bolts was loose sticking out an inch, I'm missing a transmission bolt on the left side that bolts into the cover, the bottom transmission bolt that goes through the same cover came loose at one point cause the cover fell down and interfered with my steering rack, and the best part was that they didn't even mount the big ground wire that bolts on the bottom starter/transmission bolt.
Epic fail. |

Whats worst is that today, August 29th, marks exactly 3 years since the day I purchased the car :bs: |

And no you don't have fucking OCD. Learn what OCD is before misapplying the term. |
