Stock intake has ridges, ridges add turbulence, turbulent air no bueno. And a good sounding intake/exhaust beats artificial sound anyday.

I had the motivation, only because I remembered reading about it while researching intakes: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...95&postcount=4 |
first thing i did was put in a perrin intake tube. That's all i really needed and wanted. Cleans up the engine bay a bit and the piping inside is smooth and uniform. My car sounds deeper without the annoying rasp.

It also makes the cabin much quieter at highway speeds. I thought it was road noise, but once I put the Perrin tube in and ripped all the shit out, it was mostly from the generator

i bought the car with an aftermarket airaid intake with no sound tube (firewall was unplugged). Sounded really good.
Put the OEM back on and did not install the sound tube (plugged the outlet where the soundtube connects to the intake). Left the firewall unplugged. Did not like the sound. Re-installed the sound tube alongside the OEM intake. Sounds great. I do have a lachute exhaust on the car but it seems more artificial sounding when you are getting all exhaust noise and no intake noise. With the sound tube the sound from the car seems more balanced and the car feels more "alive" from an auditory standpoint. To be perfectly honest it sounded best with the airaid intake and the lachute exhaust in tandem, but the intake messed with the idle and according to dynos it loses power and definitely messes with the torque curve. for the time being i am leaving the OEM intake with the sound tube to compliment the exhaust. i may experiment with aftermarket intakes for better sound but i know few of them that dyno better than the stock intake+sound tube. |
I'm on board for removing it due to A) being an AT, B) listening to loud bass and/or music, C) upgrading to a Perrin inlet hose, D) no proven loss of HP, E) Loud ass exhaust that you can't even hear your passengers anyways.
With a mix of the above, its safe to say I wont be missing my un/necessary engine components. Also, I'm the necrothreadromancer. I do what I want ;) No one should ever feel bad about revisiting the past. "It's always there to remind you" of things you need to learn. Sing that part of the song in your head... you're welcome!
