Planning on Swapping a 5mge from a 85 Supra into my 86.

My Father has his old 1985 Supra in the garage and hes planning on dumping it.
i was planning on stripping everything out and just junking the body.
My question is would the 5mge and tranny be a clean swap into my 86

any advice helps Aloha.

Yep, it’s a direct bolt in.

It wouldn't.

Don’t lead this guy down the wrong path. Everyone knows this engine is a drop in and the 150lbs it brings is totally worth the effort.

Shhhhhh

Save the Supra

Unless its a rust bucket, then sell it all for scrap

The motor, by itself, would make a good anchor.

Not a lot of info but looks like an 85 Supra in rough shape should fetch about $3K in Hawaii. If running well enough to swap the engine then probably worth more. Now I don't know what scrap prices there are like but would seem it makes more sense to sell the whole thing instead of swapping a 34 year old engine.

you're in luck! toyota is at the forefront of engine management, and implemented single wire CANBUS communication back in 1980, well before anyone else had even heard of it! they also made all 1970+ cars 2020 emissions compatible!

just ask your local DMV!

That motor is stronger with more potential and that transmission holds a lot of WTQ. Technologically superior to the stock stuff in every way. Do the swap now and document it!!!

This has to be a troll. Pretty funny one though...

Pretty sure the last time I tried to do this swap, I couldn't get the power steering to work.

This went as expected

i had the most trouble getting the turn signal fluid to work. turns out the newer stuff is a thicker consistency that gums up the old style pumps

You do realize you'd be going through a ton of work and money to LOSE 40hp, right? :bonk:
