Clear coat coming off on a 2017
 

I bought a used 2017 86 a few months back. I noticed few spots on the trunk lid where the clear coats come off a bit while clay baring and waxing the car. Is that considered "paint flaw" where I can get it fixed under warranty or is that something the previous owner caused and I need to address it myself?

that's not clear coat pulling up.

that's clear coat damage from something acidic like bird poop.

a little uber compound will clean that right up.

…..and if that don't work, Bubba says to clean up the area with alcohol, then hit it with a gray marker then wax over it - :iono:

Try a polish first.
If it doesn't pull it out use a rubbing compound, then polish it back to a high gloss

neither of those look deep enough to need to resort to any sort of serious abrasive like a rubbing compound. a little polish/glaze, and the heat from a rotary buffer to shift the clear coat around (i treat paint like stiff moulding clay) would be all it really needs.

By hand, with clean microfiber should get it sorted

Would I just apply the polish in circular motion?

yep. follow the instructions on the polish.

wax on, wax off

try a mild polish like m205. get a very soft microfiber towel and dont bear down too hard on the paint, these cars have very very soft paint.

I hope you can get that to buff out; however, I'd start the grieving process now for your paint. These cars are a hot mess when it comes to paint quality. Subaru really dropped the ball on incorporating better water-based paints into their production line following the VOC limitations put in place back in 2012-2013.

Single largest and most uniformly disappointing issue with these cars, IMO.
