Does your stock BRZ make pops and crackle sounds?

Hey guys i have a stock 15 brz, only mods i have done is, top speed pro axle back and catless srs frontpipe. My car sometimes would give a really loud pop when downshifting 3rd to 2nd and 2nd to 1st? It’s not even due to revving hard, i just rev match every downshift and i prob blurb to 2500-3000 rpm. Is there a solid reason why it’s only popping once in awhile? it sounds really nice and loud but only hear it like once or twice a day haha.

I get the same thing too. Mine is remark axleback and circuitwerks dual resonated front pipe. Loud and pops like shot gun when I downshift.

I don’t think so but i would be getting under the car soon to see if the bolts are loose. i do have some rattle but i’m guessing it’s the front pipe rubbing on overpipe heat shield.

You revmatch downshift into 1st?

Did you buy the car used? Was it tuned?

Every time I hear a pop I'm terrified of direct injector seals failing but that's not a problem on later cars.

With a Corsa I sometimes get burbles and pops on overrun. If I hold the throttle at a specific point on decel it'll start doing it. During the summer in hot weather, and ice cold winter temperatures I notice it even more.

If I get your drift, I agree, downshifting (rev match or not) into 1st, anytime the car isn't standing still, is asking for a problem (jolt to the drivetrain).

I guess its my bad habit, when im coming to a stop sign i would downshift to 1st around 5-10 mph. i do hear way more pops and crackles 2nd to 1st.

i mean i bought it used but i have driven other brz and frs and really couldn't feel any different.

Mine didn't pop/crackle until I had an exhaust leak at the frontpipe.

Well, my take is that "pops and crackles" are a sign that the engine is not happy.

Maybe I think that way because back-in-the-day, when an engine sounded like that it was usually because the timing was off or the engine had waaay too many carburetors on it, for the cam to handle - :iono:

OR, some idiot was just cutting off the ignition and turning it back on, trying to blow the muffler off - :(
